Hey folks, I just acquired a smith and wesson 38 special. I love the revolver but just dont know a lot about it, it's stainless, has smith and wesson on the left side of barrel along with the trademark stamp on the left side. It has Smith and wesson 38 special ctg on the right side of the barrel and in the chamber area it has CER2XXX and under that 64-6. Would anyone know the year it was made and approximate value? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You already know as much as we can tell you - you have a Model 64-6 in 38 Special. The 3 letter, 4 alpha serial number tells us it is made after 1980 or so, when they changed to that system, and beyond that, without detailed pictures to inspect, it is impossible to estimate the value. We cannot really even tell you the barrel length without a picture.

The CER prefix puts it as shipping in late 2000. As Shawn mentioned, gun values are based on condition and features; a 3" barrel would bring much more than the more common 4".
