I know that there are others on this board that use their 627-4PC's for competition. I'd like to know what brass and moon clip combo works best for you.

I did quite a bit of research when I first acquired my 627 Super and found that the OE S&W clips (short, split-arm design) worked best - that is they held the cartridges most rigidly.

So it has been several years, and more than several thousand rounds, and I have found that the clips wear-out. I theorize that the split-arm design is the cause. With the constant loading and unloading of the clip, the gap in the split decreases which causes an unacceptably sloppy cartridge fit - to the point where when I grab one off my belt, I sometimes see loaded cartridges flying, which usually costs me an additional reload or, at best, having to index the cylinder. Neither is desirable when you are on the clock.

I am thinking of going to Super Comp brass and using the RIMZ polymer moon clips. These clips completely surround the cartridge head (thus the need for rimless brass) and support it as well as anything I've found.

This will incur a sizeable investment in replacing both brass and clips, but somehow paying $7 - $8 per metal moon clip seems obscene.

So I'm curious what you are using and what you think the pros and cons are of my possible switch.

Thanks for your input.

I use Remington 38 super brass and Revolver Supply Extreme .040 moonclips. The more clips you buy the cheaper they are and they are much cheaper than the EDM clips.

Thanks, but I've already committed to use the RIMZ clips with Star Line .38 Super Comp brass. First trial by fire will be the first Saturday in July.
