I saw a 386 XL Hunter last year at my local gun range. I didn't know they existed until then. They were only made for 2 years but I wanted one. I finally won a nice used one on GB yesterday. I should have it by Wednesday or Thursday. I will post pictures when I bring it home and I will post a range report as soon as I get a chance to shoot it.

I had one in my hands a couple of years ago....still think about that one.

I've been thinking about picking up 386 XL Hunter, too.

I am looking forward to photos and a range report. Maybe your experience will finally tip me over the edge.

I passed on one a few years back, and sometimes regret it. Ended up with a 329 as a woods gun. If I came a cross one in good condition for a reasonable price I'd still be very tempted. Looking forward to pics and a range report!

The 386 mountain lite the gun I carry if I feel there is a need for more rounds then the 640 has. It has a 3" bbl. It's a great gun and is lighter then the other L frames. With the longer bbl the hunter has it will be a nice shooter. Definitely need a range report, enjoy yours when you get it. Larry

Like S&W1006, I had never heard of one until I stopped off at my favorite gun store last November and they had a lightly used one in the display case. Wow! I really liked it but hesitated because I didn't know anything about it. Went home and looked it up and found it's an unusual model and was at a very good price! So the next morning I was at the store before the last employee showed up for work with my checkbook in hand.

Recoil is a bit brisker than a M28 but it's really not bad. The full size grips help spread out the kick to your palm and while light, it's not a featherweight J frame either. Accuracy is as good as any other S&W 357 I have. I'm very pleased with mine! Hope you enjoy yours!

I picked up my 386 XL today. I haven't had a chance to fire it yet but I am pleased so far. It is used but in very good condition. I knew it would be light it weighs 30 ounces but it feels lighter than I expected. I am looking forward to shooting it. Now I need to find a nice holster for a 6" revolver.

Nice. It's got the scandium alloy frame. What's the cylinder? Blackened stainless or carbon steel? Product code for these was 164298.

I took the 386 to the range today. I am very pleased with it. It shoots just as well as all my other S&W revolvers. I love the light weight. I thought it might be too light for magnums but it was actually not bad at all with magnum ammo. This one is a keeper.
