I wasn’t looking for one because I didn’t think I’d ever see one. However, while at the Vegas Antique Arms and Collectors Show, I became disappointed at all empty tables, the lack of guns that interested me and the ridiculous prices. I was ready to give up and go home, but since I paid $20 to get in, I decided to make one more lap. I am glad I did. I found this “like new” 396 no dash Mountain Lite with aluminum case and all the goodies. Since I couldn’t find any comparative prices online, I offered him $1200, $200 less than his asking price. Since he didn’t hesitate to accept, I wonder if I should have offered less. ;) Doesn’t matter because I am happy with my find.

Perfect timing - my 44 spl order just arrived. :D

Nice addition, not often seen where I shop. I don't think I've ever gotten around to shoot mine, time to do that I guess. Now you need a 296 to go with it if you don't already have one. I don't know if $1200 is high but I think it is one of those models you have to buy when you see it as you may not see another for quite awhile. Enjoy.

Thanks! I like your logic. :)
I actually had a 296 I had forgotten about it.

I think you did very well price wise.

I don’t have a 396, but I have three variations of the 386 and a 315. (396PD, 396 Mountain Lite, 396 Night Guard. The 315 is a scandium K frame.)

Impressive bunch of lightweight heat. I only have 296, 342PD, 329PD and now the 396. I’d love to have a 310 NG. Last month I passed on a 325 NG. Thinking I should have grabbed it.

You don’t see the scandium revolvers, aside from the J frames, very often! Grab when can!

Totally agree
The only thing that would have stopped me would have been a lock, 396-1.

I’m no fan of the lock and most of my revolvers have pinned barrels, but I live with the lock on some newer S&W’s.

Maybe one day I’ll get rid of the locks and plug the holes.

But shooting even the stiffest of ammo has not produced an issue.

Failure is not the issue, it’s simply aesthetics and principle. Also, plugging the hole leaves a gap between the hammer and frame. Just my OCD. ;)

Very nice!

I always lusted for a 396 No Lock as the perfect Colorado boonies backpacking revolver.

Yep, me too. If this beast would have been a -1, I wouldn't have given it a second look. Everyone knows the no dash is lighter because it doesn't have a lock. ;)
