What happens when you like the ballistics and handling characteristics of the 4.25 inch barrel, but the abbreviated grip of the "compact" .45?
You make your own CCO.
Shown with both the 4566 slide (with front night sight) and the 4516 slide for perspective.
I was hesitant to post this till my range testing was done. I fired 400 rounds of mixed 230 grain ball and Rem Golden Sabre (my carry load for .45) and found it to shoot to point of aim, and had zero failures of any kind. I used 4506 magazines to make sure it would feed from them, as well as 4516 mags. Perfect in all regards.
Now I can swap slides as I see fit, using the 4516 slide for IWB, and the 4566 slide for the belt holster. I love these things more all the time!

SquidSix,

I like it! The more I mess around with the 3rd Gens, the more I like them too! There is a great deal of commonality betwixt the different series of guns.

I have 2 4566s (pic below) and 2 4003TSWs, 1 645 and 1 3913. I can switch parts between most of them, with the exception being safety parts (due to the slide width).

Have you tried the stock S&W grip? I like the Hogues, but find they're too much of a good thing for me. I send in the factory grips to ROBAR and have them stippled. Seems to work. They don't hang up on clothes and offer decent adhesion to the hand.

I have been lusting after a 4516 and will most likely get one. I just have to be cognizant of the spring issues to assure 100% reliability.

As I type this, I wonder if the opposite can be done: A 4516 slide on a 4566/4506 frame? May have to explore that one...

Thanks for the pics. Enjoy! Have a good Navy Day!

Yes, the 4516 slide works just fine on my 4566 frame. I don't care for that configuration, but it works.
Funny you mention the factory grips, because I JUST switched to them about five minutes ago, as I prefer them. I was only trying out the hogues to see what the hubbub was about. Seems if you like a hand full of play-dough, they are the grips for you!

I love the CCO concept. I did the same thing using a well worn 6906 frame and a 5904 slide.

After I tested the concept, I did a trigger job, carry bevel, installed a single side safety, and installed Trijicon night sights. The finish is Cerakote.

This is my daily carry piece.

^ HOLY **** THAT'S PERFECT!
I love the long-ish slide on that frame. I have to go and buy a 5906 from CDNN and pull the slide for my 6906. GREAT looking pistol endred!!

Thanks squidsix!

If you want to save yourself some cash over buying a complete gun, search Gunbroker for S&W parts kits. You can often find complete slides along with all the internal frame parts (left over parts from a frame destroyed by the gov't).

I have a 4506 slide and barrel for my 4516, it works perfectly. I picked mine up off of ebay back when you could still buy gun parts there.
