4" 57 Shows Up

A fellow brought this mid-70's high shooter grade 41 Magnum to my tables Sunday and I could not resist. It's really clean, inside and out with just enough wear to keep it out of the safe and in the woods/on the range.

Got one just like it. Just enough wear not to worry about shooting it. Got a nice deer with it a couple of years ago while hiking my little 23 acre farm. I've always loved the .41 mag. I carried a model 58 for a while as a rookie cop until they issued us model 66's.

Not too many of them were rode hard and put away wet. Ammo was expensive then too! I got this one earlier this year and put some old presentation grips on.

about 12 years ago I found one at a shop in Denver. The gun had been riding around in the glove compartment and the bluing was the worse for it. I shot it some and the worn bluing bugged me...so off to Ford's for a reblue. They did too good a job and when I got it back, it was just so nice...a buddy at work decided he had to have it and bought it for himself as a retirement gift.

That is one I should have kept!

My first ever handgun purchase was a brand spankin' new 4" blued Model 57 just like that one. I was looking for a Model 29 (thanks to Dirty Harry), but there were none to be found, and I ended up really liking the 57. That was back in 1978 when I was just out of college and had my first real paying job! It came with the mahogany presentation case. Ammo was expensive, so I started reloading with an RCBS Rock Chucker press. A couple of years later that Model 57 was stolen during a burglary, and they only left me the case. I still have the case (relined by jcelect), and I just recently replaced that blued 4" with a minty 4" nickel Model 57 (1980). The .41 Magnum (I haven't tried any .41 Spl.) is an outstanding round and very accurate. You picked up a real beauty. Enjoy!

That's very nice. I too enjoy a revolver that's nice enough to be proud of but also something one doesn't hesitate to use. About everything I own is that way. Enjoy your new .41 Magnum. :)

Oh, I know I'll need at least three. 8, 6 and 4".
Problem is, once you have those three, the little devil tells you you need the other three In the other finish. He bites at you and scratches And he will not let go.

Then the little devil whispers...Model 58. Lucky for you they only come in one barrel length and two finishes.

I am imagining this gun with a 3" bbl. Would it lose a chunk of velocity? Would it be more or less than a .44mag?

There was once a book called "The Evil That Men Do" where the main character carried a .41mag & then proceeded to show why. Great book, great gun.
