The Chiefs Special in 4-inch with adjustable sights would be ideal for many purposes: Concealed, kit gun, plinker, defense, etc. Either in stainless, such as the Mod. 631 but in the larger .38 Special, or in blue.

S&W has resisted making this 4" configuration, but they have made the Mod. 36/50/35/60 in 2", 3", 5", and 6" (Mod. 35). The fairly new 5" is weird looking, with an extra long ejector shroud, but with a SHORT ejector rod! Very unbalanced look.

I finally gave up waiting, and customized a Mod. 60, with a 4-inch barrel and adjustable sights. It is now my favorite all-around shooting handgun, and is very accurate to boot. It looks almost identical to my Mod. 631 .32 H&R Magnum, in 4-inch, and my Mod. 651 4-inch .22LR/.22Mag. WHAT A TRIO!!!

What would be the point of ANY gun, especially in Kollyfunya? Also, what's the point of engraving a gun, collecting guns, having fancy walnut stocks, getting a new caliber that fits in between 2 other calibers, etc.?

Answer: Because that's what makes this hobby fun!

Back in the early '60s, I think, S&W made a "Chief's Special Target". I didn't sell worth a hoot, and was soon discontinued. I read an article by one author who said he thought the main problem was the name -- he loved it as a trail gun and felt something cooler like "Trail Masterpiece", a la "Combat Masterpiece", would have helped it.

I wonder why the O.P. is AFAIK putting the
Chiefs SPecial title on the Kit gun? Wasn't the Chief's SPecial the .38 Spcl and the Kit gun called the 22/32 Kit gun?

THought there had been some 3 1/2" or 4' variations on the Kit gun in the past.

IMHO the 3" M60-4 came pretty close; I like mine. If they had made a .22LR clone that would have been ideal.

The 5" M60 is grotesque to me...

I checked the M60 5" Bbl. is no longer
listed in the catalogue - at least in the stadard area where J-frames are listed. I'm
waiting for the M63 8 shot w/3" Bbl. that
will match my 60 3" Bbl. I've got at
least 8 years til the first grandkid is
10 years old. The 5 inch 63 is silly for
a kid learner gun being so fricking muzzle
heavy what's the point

imho but shared by many as far as threads
go around here.
