I recently bought a 4 screw model 17 that was missing the extractor star. I ordered one from Numrich but it was a no fit. My question is will Smith and Wesson take in a Model 17 no dash for repair. I have heard as long as it's a model number that they will fix it. Anybody's personal experience will be appreciated. Glynn

I do not know the answer to your question but here is the number for customer service where you may inquire: 1-800-331-0852 You may need to wait until Monday though.

Definitely give them a call; the usual statement is they will work on a model numbered gun but it depends on parts availability. Depending on why the extractor star you bought doesn't fit they may even be willing to fit it for you. My understanding is this work requires a fair degree of experience and skill. Let us know how his works out.

I believe that part needs to be fitted. It should drop into the cylinder if you got the right one but the back surface will need to be stoned so the cylinder can close.

I'll call monday and see what they say. If they will repair it I think I'll have them reblue it while it's there. Will keep up to speed

Well, looks like a NO GO. Called this morning and was told that they wouldn't fit the extractor I bought and they didn't have any parts or replacement cylinders. Guess I can always part it out.

Why not send it to a competent gunsmith before parting it out? Seems like a waste to me to throw in the towel so soon. They don't make no dash model 17's anymore...

I'm sorry that S&W can't repair your no dash. They did this one a few years ago; including replacing parts, etc ...

They did an excellent job. I've had very poor results with loacal gunsmiths but sounds like that's your only option..
