The "dieing round" thing is extrapolated from some law enforcement agencies switching to the 9mm from the 40. Reading the articles on this, it becomes clear that the issue is of satisfying bean counters and making qualification easier with less training, not the performance of the caliber.

I personally like the 40 and have no intention of changing just because I read a newspaper piece or some internet chatter. A look at the ballistic results shows it is an outstanding personal defense round.

Not sure where you got dieing from. I have 2, HK P2000 & G22. They shoot great and I don't plan on getting rig of them. May even add a Sig 229

I am within 2 weeks of choosing either a M&P 40 or the Glock 23--knowing full well of the recent decision by our beloved F.B.I. I've shot, carried, and protected my home with the .40 with great confidence for many years. I believe the caliber is going to be around for many years to come.

I've owned a Glock 23, a 4013, and now a 40c. The only real drawback for me is ammo price.

I've got an old Ruger P91DC that I bought in 1993 shortly after the 40s&w came out and recently bought an M&P 40c. Both are excellent guns in a great caliber. I can't see the 40 going anywhere soon.

I really. Like my 40.c. a week earlier. That I bought the 40, I bought xds 45c. So far I shoot. The 40C better and more comfortable

I've got 3 40's myself and enjoy them as much as my 9's & 45's. SD40VE, M&P 40 FS and Shield 40. No issues at all with any of them. Being able to shoot all 3 calibers, I should be able to find ammo for at least one of them!

I started shooting and carrying a 40sw in '92 and still do today but not a m&p. First handgun was a Firestar M40 then a kahr tp40 10 years ago . Had to retire shooting a kahr tp40 do to hand issues after surgery and needed a wider heavier 40 and picked up a m&p 4.25" . Never was as pleased with it as I was with my wifes 9mm m&p's so gave my 40 m&p to a daughter and picked up a p320 for carry . Ammo is 155gr gold dot from underwood ammo for carry and home rolled for practice .

This is the main reason people "think" the .40 is dying off. More and more agencies are switching back to the 9 because of A) Guns are usually cheaper B) Ammo is cheaper (usually) and C) Smaller framed/female officers typically do better with a smaller framed firearm.

My department is looking at switching from the Glock 21 (.45) to a Glock 17/19 (9mm) for just those reasons. There is roughly a $250 price difference between a Gen 4 G21 and a Gen 4 17/29 so when you're looking at ~150 guns, that's a bit of a savings. I'm fairly close with the Sgt doing the research into switching weapons, maybe I'll see if he'll consider the .40 Glock since it's dimentionally the same as the 9mm.

Oh no... say it ain't so! This must be the beginning of the demise of the .45ACP. Better sell off your .45s boys soon there won't be any ammo to feed them. LOL

Okay the .40S&W may not be quite as well established as the .45ACP but I think you get the point. The 9mm auto didn't kill off the .38spl or .357mag. and it's not going to kill off the .40S&W either.

Within a round or two of most 9mm's in capacity, energy similar to the 45 and some loadings higher with a higher mag capacity. I also shoot my 40 better than my 9mm whats not to like!

Carry a G22 on duty and M&P40 off duty (much better than the glock.) I enjoy shooting the M&P40. No one is saying the 40S&W isn't a great round, just that the 9mm is close in testing, easier to shoot and cheaper. I like carrying the caliber that the other is comparing itself to. Back in the revolver days no one carried a duty 38spl because it was more lethal than a 357 magnum, they carried it because it was easier to shoot.

Don I have never seen much for a difference in price between a standard glocks in 9mm thru 45 when set up with the same sights . 50 bucks maybe but surely never a price difference like mentioned . That's 50 bucks may depend more on the number of firearms order edto see what the price break is .

The prices I mentioned aren't set in stone, they were a ballpark figure that I overheard in passing so I may be off a bit, but they were based on Glock 9s with standard and then night sights then Glock 45s with & without night sights.

Shoot what works best for you. Agency decisions are always driven by multiple factors.
