Just received my 4006TSW from vendor today. Is a use LE gun and almost spotless with exception of grips. Grips are beat to HXXX, which is understandable due to holster.

Now here is my question, I've search the darn net and this forum and others forum's for replacement grips but no luck. Seems the grips for the 4006 are one piece. I've seen lots of grips for 59 series and factory replacements but no wood grips.

It's an AR thing of mine. Get a gun, clean the hXXX out if it and replace the standard grips.

All comments and links will be GREATLY appreciated..........

The 5906 and 4006 grip are the same. There aren't many choices out there. Check out Hogue's wood or rubber replacement grips. There are some other options you'll find on sites like Ebay.

Both grips listed above will fit, but you can get the palmswell grip to fit as well. I always shot them better, so I have the curved backstrap from a 5904 on my 4003. I like it much better.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info and direction. Will be looking at Hogue as I like the wood look better........

Keep in mind the grip is bigger. If you have a small hand that could be a problem.

There is another solution to beat up grips...

I have a set of palm swell grips on my 4506-1 that I ordered from S&W that are for a 1076, but still fit.

Are the ones you're mentioning factory? I'd like to know where to get them as I've not seen any for the double stacked magazine frames.

Did you get your 4006 from Summit?

Sorry, haven't been on in a while. I just did a search on gunbroker, and typed in 5906, or 5904 grip ( actually any 5900 series). These will have the hump, and they will interchange on to 4000 series pistols. Got mine, lnib for about $15 shipped. I think MidwayUSA has them too.

Oh, ok... when you mentioned palm swell, I thought you were referring to the 3rd style of grip once available for the larger 45xx/10xx frames, and had found some for the 4006 instead of the regular straight and curved backed ones available.

On the S&W 1076 10mm pistols made for the FBI, they had a grip style know as the "FBI palm swell". Those are really comfortable.

Here's a pic of my 4506-1 with the FBI palm swell grips, it's hard to tell from a photo, but see how they have a deeper recess at the top rear for the web of your hand than regular factory grips and from about the trigger guard down (you can see a slight shadow line) they have slight palm swell.

Sorry

You are correct. Used the wrong terms. I don't know of any palmswells other than the one orginally made for the 1076
