Went to the range today to shoot/sight in for the first time a pair of used but new to me 4006 with adjustable rear sights. Winchester White Box 165gr. We were shooting at 22' and they were grouping well with 5 shot groups between a nickel and a quarter. One a little high and left, the other a little low and left. I prefer my groups in the 10 ring, so adjusted for elevation, adjustment tool on top, turn screw, no problem. Upon adjusting for windage, we noticed that the whole rear sight moved up and down at the rear. I must have lifted up a little with the adjustment tool in the side screw. With my finger I then lifted up the rear of the sight and it snapped down back into place, almost as if it were attached to a spring.
Coming from revolvers to pistols, this is new to me. My buddy, who shoots pistols, was also surprised to see this. Most, if not all rear sights that I have seen are rigid, or at least fixed. Except for the adjustable components.
On a 3rd Gen adjustable rear sight, have you ever noticed this?
Since both pistols do this, is this normal?
If so, why is this?
TIA for your response and explanation.
