Found conflicting info in regards to the weight/frame specs for this pistol, both at the S&W website and in S&W encyclopedia book listing all guns Smith has made. It list the wt. at 28oz for this gun and the non-TSW wt. at 38ozs. Also, the website states in specifications that it has an alloy frame but list the wt. at 38ozs. Someone who either has this gun or knows what is correct, please respond. Anyway, put the 5906 up for sale and plan to purchase this gun. Here is the specs for the 4006 TSW off of the website: SKU: 304410
Model: 4006TSW
Caliber: .40S&W
Capacity: 11+1 Rounds
Barrel Length: 4"
Front Sight: White Dot
Rear Sight: Adjustable
Grip: Straight Backstrap
Trigger: .305" Combat
Hammer: .260" Spurred
Frame: Large
Finish: Satin Stainless
Overall Length: 7 1/2"
Material: Stainless Steel
Weight Empty: 37.8 oz
Thanks for your responses, zorro49

The 4006 models, regardless of standard production, Performance Center or TSW should be steel framed models. The alloy framed models are 4003 versions.

Thanks Smithnut, that is what I thought too, but this is from the S&W website as well and it says TSW's have alloy frames, so this is one point of confusion. "Smith & Wesson Tactical Series Pistols are perfect as either a duty handgun for law enforcement or as personal protection for any civilian. Compact and built with alloy frames, they are available as either 9mm or .40 S&W. The Tactical Series™ has Novak Lo Mount Carry sights for greater accuracy and are outfitted with a standard accessory equipment rail to hold a light or laser. With a checkered front strap and ambidextrous decocking lever for both right and left-handed shooters, they stand ready to perform during any emergency. (Night sights are available for Law Enforcement Only.) The other specification is found in this book under the 4006 TSW http://www.booksamillion.com/product/9780896892934?id=4194509943070
Anyway, I thought I might be getting a few ozs shaved off of 5906 and going to 40 cal to boot, but I guess not. BTW, does anyone know which law enforcement municipality the letters CSPD would be for? zorro49

Colorado Springs?

just a guess.

you may want to call SW and see if they have any knowledge based off the serial number.

Thanks SWCQB45, and that is what I found researching on the web as well that may be the police force. When I finally take posession of the gun I will look further into the origin. zorro49

zorro49 - Where did you find information on the older model on the S&W website?
I am also trying to find specs on a S&W 4013.
Thanks

cobra, did not see the 4013TSW at S&W website, had 4003TSW listed. But what is crazy is the specs at the website stating that all TSW's were alloy frame pistols, then they list the weight as the same as for the stainless steel frame. Man I am confused, I need to get the gun shop to weigh that gun and see exactly what it does weigh...zorro49

I give up, found this press release for CHP that the 4006TSW would have stainless steel frame, when the S&W website states alloy. Wonder if the Colorado Springs PD trade ins are steel or alloy? zorro49

zorro49 - I found some info on the 4006TSW.
The frame is Aluminum alloy frame with stainless slide. It should have the equipment rail.
Weight is 37.8 oz.. Made 2000 to 2004.

If the weight is 37.8 oz it is a steel gun. An alloy frame would be about 10 ounces less.

I have 4006 and it is definately steel. That is what the 6 is for in the number. If you want aluminum that is what the 3 is for in the 4003

sigpro357, at the S&W website under a description of all TSW guns, it clearly states that all have alloy frames. This is where the confusion starts, S&W stating one thing, but the actual 4006TSW does have stainless steel frame, as stated when the CHP ordered their guns back in May 2000(see post above and click on link). zorro49

This is confusing. With the weight being 37.8, that is consistant with the stainless.

"That is what the 6 is for in the number. If you want aluminum that is what the 3 is for in the 4003"

I never realized that fact about the ending number being a 3 or a 6.
I know the 4053 weighs in at 26.8 ozs.
A lot of bad information, even on the makers web site.
