I've never seen one of these lasers and I was hoping someone could tell me some more info on it. It's just a novelty to me but it would be nice to know more about it. It looks to be well made and how it says PAT PEND on it I would think it will be an early example of their product. What little info I have found is the company is now called Steiner eOptics and makes some high end stuff now.

Well I can’t comment on that particular LDI laser, (other than it’s very cool AND very “old”.) I’d like to have one just because. History?

I can personally stand up for LDI lasers though. I got a MP5 cocking tube one 10-12 yrs ago. It is most excellent. I put it in/on my “neutered” 33 when I went with the Surefire hand guard on the “neutered” MP5. Of course it is so much brighter and projects farther than a CT laser.

I’m positive your older LDI laser is of very high quality. They were extremely high quality and very intense. So much so that “they” tried to make the latter ones illegal as the lasers were military grade. Dumb bunnies, aircraft and such I suppose. Like yours the HK cocking tube examples haven’t been available for years.

The little one I have has held up perfectly and true to POA. The one you have obviously looks even more indestructible.

I hope this doesn’t get into laser is nonsense and useless discussion. I think that is a very cool piece of laser history from a premier manufacturer.

Very cool bit of history!

Looks like an early 4006 and the laser is marked for it so I'm wondering if they came shipped together from the factory and if it is reflected on the end label either under features or product number?

How does it attach to the pistol frame?

For its size, it must be a powerful laser because it wasn't very long after the introduction of the 4006 that "Lazermax" (I think it was) brought out their guide rod laser.

Interesting combo!

John

Looks like they got their patent approved and made them for several other pistols.

I’m not finding much information on them either other than the images I found and attached.

1987 just called. Robocop wants his pistol back...:D

The mechanical toggle switch would worry me. Not only is it prone to being accidentally turned on and off because the toggle is sticking out the side, but I would be concerned that recoil might prematurely wear it out. Plus the switch ball is open to dirt and residue. There are a lot more compact options with sealed solid state parts out there these days. Other than that it does give off an early "Techno" vibe.

There was another S&W on GB a while back with one of these on it . It might be worth getting a letter from Roy on your new buy .

I bought this back in 2007 or 2008. It was in a Cabela's gun library.
The same person who traded it in had also traded in a 1911 45 ACP Lasermax pistol or something like Lasermax 1911. The 1911 fans will hopefully help me out on what I am talking about.
I'm sure the laser that's on it didn't come from S&W as a set but I did buy it as it is in my photos. It is a 1991 manufacture 4006 that was a police refurbished from S&W.
Thanks for everyone trying to help on this obscure old school laser.

Laser Devices Inc. laser installed on a 1006. Uses one relatively pricey and hard to find 28L battery. Coupled with a stainless steel guide rod (from [email protected] if you’re interested) it can help to reduce muzzle flip. Total weight loaded is a little over 52 ounces.
