Reggie,
I have a 4040PD and love it.
It is the same size as my 3913NL (Non Lady-Smith), as they take the exact same leather and the grips are interchangeable, shown with the plastic ones.

Bad_Man_one has it right, the 3913 and 4040 grips are interchangeable. I have never tried the Hogue wood grips, but since 4040PD's came with Hogue rubber grips as original equipment, the wooden grips should fit just as well.
If you end up trying this post some pics as, it would be nice to see what wood grips look like on a 4040. I personally like the Hogue rubber grips that are original as they fit my hand perfectly and, in my opinion, the looks of the gun. The grey delrin grips do add a little something to the looks that the rubber grips lack.

Cool, thanks.
I' m not sure what I'll do quite yet. I just got it. I had a Sig P239 with wood and liked it. It is un-real how close the Sig and the Smith are in size, mag capacity, market niche, operation and they do bear more than a slight resemblance to each other, but the SW wins being 1/4 pound lighter.

Great to know, thanks everyone. The grips on my 4040PD are still serviceable but I'd like to replace them in a while. Now, if anyone can tell me what magazine is really compatible with the 4040PD I'd be forever in their debt. Remember the 4040PD has the "ball plunger assembly" in the right side of the mag (opposite the slide stop) to further coerce the follower to engage slide lock on an empty mag.

S&W doesn't show 4040PD magazines on its website and I'd like to know if any other S&Ws have that assembly which are compatible.

4040PD mags are available - see my post in your 404PD mag thread.

4040pd grips

I just ordered a set of 3913 grips from S&W to put on my 4040pd. I received a pair of #20356 and they won't go on the gun due to a lug at the bottom that hits the bottom of the mainspring. I called customer support and was told that the 3913 is a 9mm and those grips won't fit a 40 caliber. Can you tell me the part number of th 3913nl grip that I need to replace the Hogue rubber?

4040pd grips

The p/n 203560000 is the correct Smith & Wesson part number.
The mainspring fits into the hole in that black lug at the back/bottom of the grip.
If it then does not fit the 4040PD under the dovetail location, is possible that S&W sent you what they thought was the properly packaged grip.
It has happened in the past that the packaging of the grip was proper but the grip was not the correct one in it.
If you get the correct grip, it will fit perfectly, guaranteed.

On a side note for mags that will fit into a 4040PD and cycle perfectly and also lock the slide back:
The 39, 39-2, 3906 and 952, both 8 & 9 rounder's, the 8 rounder's from 3913LS and NL with both flat bottom and pinkie finger bases.
Doing a check with "dial caliper", they are dimensionally the same only made of Stainless Steel.
