This weapon has developed a strange problem.
The gun fires and ejects the spent shell properly but does not cock for next round. I have to rack out the chambered round to fire another shot.
Any ideas?

That's called failure to reset.

It can be caused by underpowered ammunition not pushing the slide back far enough.

It can be caused by accumulated crud in the action, especially if it has been over-lubricated and improperly cleaned.

It is also a symptom of guns that have had springs removed or cut to "improve" the trigger.

If none of the above apply, it might have a broken part.
