44-40 ammo?

Winchester WAS making a 44-40 cartridge with a 200 grain JSP, and it seemed like Remington was as well...don't know if that is still the case.
Are you wanting to use them for hunting or self defense?

I may have a box or two of Winchesters if you don't find anything at the show.

Even the JHP loads by Rem and Win are loaded quite mild. Might be adequate for deer out of a rifle or carbine if kept to under 100yds.

The 44/40 WCF is not an easy round to reload either. The case necks are quite thin and crush easily. Also , most guns require a .425-.427 dia bullet. Jacketed .430 bullets intended for a .44 magnum can cause high pressure.

Measure your throats - check your chambers - slug the bore , for best results.

OK if you know you are an excellent shot with your gun and the range is very short. Otherwise, I would recommend using something better - at least a .357 Magnum. A .44-40 Cowboy load is most definitely nowhere near being in the same performance league as a .44 Magnum. On second thought, I wouldn't recommend using the .44-40 at all.
