I know that the 44 HE first model target guns (triplelock) had serial numbers stamped on the underside of the rear sight tang. Are serial numbers also stamped on the underside of the rear sight tang for the 44 HE second model target guns?

Yes. Pre War rear sights are buffed ON the frame, just like sideplates. So, both parts need a number to get back to the right gun.

Kinda like the guy whose weekly pay was $20 too high. Well, he didn't say anything about. However, the next week it was $15 short.

You will also find serial #s on the front and rear sight blade but they must be removed to see them and usually only the last 3 digits if the full serial # is more than 4 or 5 digits long.
The bottom line is any and everything fit to a frame is numbered to that frame.
The next bottom line is any and everything fit to a piece that's fit to the frame is also numbered.
The very last bottom line is the folks whose name's on the building did their dead level best to make sure there were no little glitches that required time and money to fix. They were in the making business---fixing stuff comes later.
