I recently bought a model 24 and went to the range to put a few down the tube. This is a first and only 44 special and reload all other ammo so I had none on hand and thought I could buy some there? Well at $51 for a box .....NO WAY! My question is this I can get hornady brass for $42 a 100 or star line for $21 a 100. I dont compete but need to know is the there that much difference in brass quality?

thanks...Jay

Thanks , guys I will order some today then

Starline also offers nickel plated 44 special which I prefer.
It cleans up faster and looks spiffy!
Also doesn't tarnish in storage or when carrying.
Been shooting the Starline for many years and it is fine.

After trading for a 21-4 I ordered 200 pieces of 44 spl. brass from starline. Excellent brass for a price that's reasonable when compared to other big names.
When I started loading 44 mag I found new starline brass to be cheaper than some places with once fired.

Been shooting Starline for a very long time. Gack when they supplied brass for Midway, say at least 25 years. Great stuff and I've tried others without finding any better.

I bought 500 pieces of Starline .44 Special brass in 1997 and I'm still using it with great results. I've also got 500 pieces of Starline nickel plated .44 brass that I use for high end loads. While I like Hornady components, I don't think the brass is worth twice as much as Starline.

Agree with Starline quality.

My own results with over 10 year cowboy action matches and 45 LC, was even on the low-moderate loads, I lost more nickle cases to fractures than brass brass.

My original 500 nickle cases new circa 1995 remains about 80% intact and reloadable after many many cycles of such.

I bought 1,000 Starline .44 Specials maybe 2 years ago. Every one has been shot several times now at least. All good as new. I have no problems with recommending them unconditionally.

X2.... Starline probably makes Hornady brass. Excellent brass at half the cost. What's not to like?

I use Starline almost exclusively. No complaints at all on my end. Someone here did weight comparison of .44 Mag brass in the past year, and Starline was the heaviest if I recall correctly. I'm not going to jump to conclusions about the correlation between weight and durability since there's other factors like the quality of the brass, but my Starline .44 Magnum cases have held up exceedingly well. Uniformity is top shelf in my opinion. When I find them on the floor at the range, I feel like I won something.

I have some Starline .44Special brass that has been fired 12 times so far. I have been keeping track to see how far brass can actually go, I haven't lost one yet. I noticed the mouths were getting a little thin so I did trim them all back another 0.010" after the tenth reloading to make sure they don't start splitting.

$20 for 100 is a great price................

most sporting stores in my area want $20 for 50 cases.....
but it works if you are in a pinch.

It ain't going to get any cheaper !! Get 200 or MORE if possible.

I don't think Starline is that great, but I wouldn't pay twice as much for something else. I bought 500 Starline 44 specials. Primer seating effort is pretty variable and it all had some kind of brass dust on it. I had to clean my sizing die a couple times when resizing it.

I have and use Starline brass in several flavors, including 44 Special. In 35 years I have yet to find any better brass and am now too old to look. I have plenty backed up, including 10MMMagnum and 454 C both of which I no longer have a use for. I will hold on to the 44's though. :) ;)
