Picked-up a 296 ti recently. After scouring the local and on-line stores (bare of any weight) finally found a single box (20) of Federal Classic 200 gn semi-wadcutter HP. Box was marked $16.99 and I asked the prop. if he was giving the Vets discount today. He replied that I was lucky he wasn't marking it up to current price. So with PA sales tax I paid $18.00 for the box. I'm still happy to have them and the gun loaded on my belt. Tomorrow I order dies, conversion kit, brass and lead RNFP from Dillon for the RL 550B. I have saved, not hoarded, primers and powder. Then I'm in business. Next, Crimson trace grips.

I have a box of 50 in my locker price-marked $10.95. Of course, I bought it about 20 years ago...

Yes, recently lucked into two remaining boxes of any .44SPL locally: 200gr GDHP for $26/each.
Saw the really hot DPX/Corbon at $49/box online, though I'm not sure about wanting to touch that off through a 296 or my Taurus 445Ti  Reloading is the way to go.

I normally carry Winchester ST 200grJHP in my 296. When Evan Marshall's committee for eating brats, tested this round some years ago, it was from my 296, and it expanded to .712 after passing thru four layers of denim. We tested this load 7/2/04.

We did a comparison between the 'old' ST load and the New one. The old ST from the 2.5" barrel looked like it could be reloaded, no expansion, and just a bit of denim in cavity.

While I have shot CorBon 165gr JHP and several other loads in my 296, and carry DPX in a speed strip, the gun is still loaded with the ST. I have shot more of it than any other 'protection' rounds, and know where it will shoot. My 296 is usually carried as a second gun.

If I were smart enough, I would post pictures :((
