What a great gun OP!
I think the post war transitional guns are a really neat period where the guns have all the charm of the prewar era such as the long action hammer throw. Plus it has the benefit of the newer hammer block design.
My only beef on the older guns is the half-moon front sight. I wish S&W went to ramped front sights earlier than they did in their manufacturing history for the military models. Another great older sight is the US pocket sight which puts a square face notch on the top of the half-moon.
