During the shooting portion of my CCW class last night my seldom fired 442 Airweight surprised me. A gun I have owned for over 20 years that has about 200 rounds through it. (making me a bit nervous) While not super marksmanship by any stretch here are 75 rounds from 3, 5 and 7 yards with zero practice. As I can have 3 guns on the permit I also shot my Glock 22 in .40 and new to me 9mm Shield. I must have been worried about the 442 and concentrated more, where the other 2 guns I just blasted away to get it over with. Again, not the best ever but much better than I expected. What a great little rig. :D
(I think you just need 70% in the grey to pass) I had the right lane by the fan making the target dance explaining the long tearing holes. It was blowing 90 deg to the right every few seconds. LOL LOL kind of a moving target.

Yeah it looks like a 642 rather than a 442 but that's not really the point here.
I hear people say how hard it is to shoot a J frame snubby accurately, particularly in double action.
That's definitely an acceptable group at self defense range with a dao snubby.
I carry a 442 everywhere I go, either in my pocket or on my belt in one of my homemade holsters. It's a nice dependable little gun. I did have to put a Pachmayr Compact grip on it to make it easier to hold onto with my big hands.

Agree, mine has been carried quite a bit, but was never really a range gun for me. Plan to shoot it more often now. The real surprise is the price of .38's these days!

It has always looked like a 442 to me. I remember having the choice of black or satin.
I bought it in silver to match my 629 8 3/8" Classic. Both ends of the spectrum.......

That looks like my group when I have the barrel up to the paper. One time I shot a good group with my kahr mk9 & not so good with my emp 9 when usually the reverse. With me at least sometimes different day different gun different group. I'm going to the range today to try out my new 340pd (no ILS) that I got yday & if I can do as good as you did I will be overjoyed.

To me, it looked like the frame is a different color than the barrel & cylinder. The nickel 442's color usually matches better than a 642. As someone said, "what difference does it make"? I've always thought the satin nickel 442 was the pick of the litter in Airweight Centennials.

The later has a SS cylinder as I recall, the early carbon steel.
Memory check anyone ?

While I own S&W revolvers in all frame sizes, I must admit to favoring my J-frames. My 442-1 .38 I purchased new in 1996 is my current oldest in my J-frame collection as well as my longest owned, and it is a sentimental favorite that remains in mint condition with only 1 box of 50 through it when I first bought it.

Nice shooting. That is a 442, and is the nickel finish. I bought two, in the 90s, and a friend still has one of them. The other met with explosive fate when a buddy tried some +p+++ reloads... Since they were no longer made, I have a 642 in its place.
