Does anybody know any current source that has Virgin (new) 45-70 Govt. brass in stock? I have tried all the usual places and no one has any.

Thanks!

Unfortunately I can not help you.

In January Colt brought out a 1877 Bullpup Gatling Gun for us to shoot. They also supplied 5000 rounds of ammunition.

As a handloader it really hurt me to know that was all getting left behind at the range.

If I could have figured out how to pick it all up with nobody seeing me and get it back to Florida I would have been VERY happy.

Thanks, but back ordered at least 90 days.

I can't believe 45-70 is in so much demand - who would have guessed?

I could use some too as my stock is getting low. I've been shooting the same nickel-plated brass for 10+ years and they're all starting to crack. None of my sources show anything.

I think most of the problem is due to the manufacturers concentrating
on the calibers they sell millions of, especially the disposable auto pistol numbers.
I can't believe the amount of brass left at our indoor pistol range.
Someone even left a box of 500 S&W brass on the floor. You should
have seen the 4 of us who were there scrambling like bunnies on the
floor once this was discovered. I got a few to play with and add to the collection.

The 444 I shoot is not as popular as the 45-70 if the number of guns
offered in these calibers is any indication. There is little, if any, brass
for the 444 out there either. I found some NOS at RW Hart. It looked
like it had been lying around in the bags for several decades.

Good hunting!

i suggest Graff and Sons, Midway, and Shiloh Sharps and Starline, Forget the major manufacturers for the next couple of years. I've never used Starline 45-70 (2.1"), but their 45-90 (2.4") and 45-110 2.6") have worked very well. There are some other "Buffalo Gun" suppliers out there, and that group will have a line on someone making brass for them! Ivan

I use Starline and it's great brass. You can buy direct from them with the information available on their website.

Hey chief38,

I think I saw some at my LGS the other day. Don't know the brand or price, but it is new in a plastic bag.

How much do you need?

If you like, I can go by and check the brand and price. Let me know.

I have some once fired if anyone would be interested. PM me

skeezix,
that is mightily kind of you! I already sent a PM to a member selling some once fired, but if it does not pan out I'll let you know. Thank you!

It would be helpful if you put up your approximate location. Lot's of us are constantly making rounds of local gun shops and someone may have spotted some of your casings in the reloading area. If by chance you are in mid Ohio I would suggest that you try Fin Feather & Fur in Ashland and Sportsmans Warehouse over in Shelby. I swung by both shops a couple of weeks ago and have a vague memory of seeing 45-70 cases hanging on one of the displays. Pretty sure it was at the Fin but it could have been the Sportsman's Warehouse.
