I am in the process of building a 45 ACP rifle on an AR platform. Using an Olympic Arms upper and my S&W lower. I will be a CQB weapon but I may decide to hunt with it too. It will have a 16-18" barrel, I havent decided for certain yet. So my question for you men/women of great wisdom. What ammo would you recommend? I know it will need to be a slow burn powder, right? Suggestions?

Your carbine should be just fine with 230 grain FMJ pistol ammo.

Most all available pistol-caliber carbines are designed to function properly with standard pistol ammunition. That means standard weight 230 grain bullets using the medium-fast powders for the caliber, such as Unique.

You can certainly try 180-200 grain lighter weight bullets at higher velocity, and your longer barrel will give you a couple hundred fps more velocity. I would not go with slower powders such as 2400 or WW 296 because they are not suited for the case volume of the .45 ACP and would leave a lot of unburned powder residue.
