Just thought I'd mention it; went to Wally world for 45ACP ball
ammo. $34/100. About the same as it was 6 months ago.
I had to get more, as the stuff keeps running out the hole on the front of my pistol.

The casting process really is not as bad or dangerous as many believe. It is really quite a straight forward process. I run straight wheel weight alloy so far and it works great with my 38 specials and .45 ACP loads. I will probably start casting 9mm and 40 before too long but for those I may need to harden the alloy a bit.

Here are some of the tools of the trade for those who have not really looked into the process.

I cast my own black powder gun balls, slugs and conicals for revolver and front-stuffer rifles. it's a real money saver for pistol slugs and the rifle conicals - buying factory made is at least 2X or more what centerfire pistol slugs cost.
but I buy the cast slugs I load for my centerfire pistols - time is in short supply it seems. I try to buy all that I will need for some time of different calibers, .32acp, .380acp, 9Mak, 9 Luger, .357 and .45acp at the same time to 'bundle' for shipping saveings.

a couple of years ago, i hit all the walmarts around me and picked up a bunch of 45acp for just less than $10 a box of fifty.
I remember even less that that within the past few years.

The last case of 9mm Remington UMC ammo I bought cost me $49 for the cast. (10 boxes of 50) The last case of .38 Special UMC ammo I bought cost me $54/case. I bought them just before the prices jumped and stayed high. If I had known what was to come I would have bought another case of each and a few cases of .45 Auto. Even though I reload it's good to have spare ammo around and fresh brass that comes when you fire it. (when the prices are that low) I doubt we will even see low prices again even though metal prices have dropped to where they were back then.

If you don't wear flip-flops!! Hot lead splattering on your toe(or in between them) can make you break out with expletives and a dance once known as the Funky Chicken.:D been there.
