I've been looking at a stainless steel cylinder with extractors for a model 625... wondering if it would drop into my 25-5 frame... thus allowing me to shoot 45ACP with half moon clips?

Any thoughts on this?

Even if a replacement cylinder is a "drop-in" replacement, you still have to gage and regulate the critical dimensions:

1. Barrel-to-cylinder gap within specifications: 0.004" to -.008".

2. cartridge case head-to-recoil shield specification: 0.005"-0.006".

And lastly, the cylinder-to-frame lug clearance would not be correct in a .45 Colt frame. It would be greatly excessive, as would item (2) making for unreliable ignition.

TK Custom, and others, will machine the cylinder in your 25-5 to enable you to shoot ACP's in moon clips, as well as 45 Colt ammo the way you always have. You will probably have to experiment with the 45 ACP ammo if you load, but maybe they can advise you on that as well. I have a 25-5 8 3/8 that has had this done, and in my view, it is hard for many shooters to notice the difference when looking at the gun, and leaves the 25-5 un harmed. I had some other things done to mine while it was at the gun smith, and it is a fine handgun. Flapjack.

The cylinders for the .45 ACP Model 25s and 625s are shorter than the ones for the .45 Colt. You will have a huge barrel cylinder gap. Amazingflapjack's advice is very good.

Would you mind shooting a picture of your cylinder so I can see what was done ?? That sounds like a plausable answer for me. I have two of the 25-5's and one is a shooter. So I'd consider modification on that one.

What is the aprox cost of this? Does it include bluing? Does the blue match?

I will let you know how my 25-5 cylinder looks when I get it back from Pinnacle Firearms. The conversion was $87 which includes return shipping. Also you can use moon clips on the .45 Colt, they are thinner than the standars clips for the .45 ACP.
