.45 ACP PISTOL RECOMMENDATIONS

I have a pre-lock Springfield with fixed sights, most everything else has adjustable target sights: two Series 70 Colt gold cups, Colt series 80 ss Trophy Match, Para P14 ss Long Slide, Para P13 compact, Kimber Ulta compact, Rock Island Match, Chip McCormick slide/frame custom parts gun, Colt ss gov model (wife's gun), Caspian frame custom parts gun, S&W ss 1911(see above) Remington R15. It just gets addictive. Even worse friends call about 1911's for sale because the owner needs money, and am I interested?

Beside 45 ACP in 1911, there are 2 in 40 S&W, 2 in 9 MM. I gues my problem is I never saw a steel gun without a lock that I didn't like if the brand name was correct. Taurus need not apply. I don't believe I'm a gun snob, I just like the good stuff, not the best, but the good stuff with a reputation for durability and quality. It helps when the price is right.

I really like my 30sf. Just as accurate as 3K pistol.

I have been carrying a CS45 for a couple of years now. Never once has it felt too heavy, or bulky on my side. I know some people say it is a "brick." Well first of all I want a gun that I know is in my hand, and has as little recoil as possible. As a non-plastic gun it is solid, and I guess that is why some people call it a brick. Recoil, I can shoot accurately with my retarded hand (my left). Carries great, shoots great, and I obviously trust my life with it, I carry it every day.

I like the Glock 30 and the SW MP .45 Compact; havent shot the new Springfield .45 Compact yet. Didn't have good luck with a my buddy's Glock 36, glad the others found theirs satisfactory.

I really like my Para LDA full size Gov 1911 in O.D. green & black, & my Glock 36. The Para shoots extremely well.

I just put my name on the waiting list for the SA XDs. I have several XDs and like them and their Customer service. I would rather have Bobs Chief Special however.;):)

I can tell you that Bob's Chief Special will tend to pull your Speedo down around your ankles. Don't ask me how I this.

Many choices have been mentioned so far, BUT, I would look hard at the Sig Sauer P220 compact. Sig's quality is well known and I believe this make and model is the one I would choose. My opinion, others may vary.

I am gravitating to .45's as well. Here is a list of my favorites:

SIG 220 (larger, relatively light, anvil tough, scary accurate)
Springfield Armory XDm (large full size, fits my hand very well, accurate, excellent capacity)
Springfield Armory XDs (very small, 6-shot capacity matches revolvers, thin, ideal carry .45)
SIG 1911 Carry Scorpion (Commander size, good sights, decent trigger out of the box, feels great--its a 1911)

I carry all of these at one time or another, got the Scorpion on right now. Concealment isn't a huge issue for me unless I am traveling, I live in Tennessee, own my business, and live in a rural community--guns don't freak people out here.

For a concealed .45, my XDs is ideal.

Well, you have received a number of suggestions.

I carry a S&W 45 M&P as duty sidearm, I think the world of mine, never had any issue with it.

I have carried a 4506 as a duty sidearm and love it. It was just too heavy for plainclothes carry.

One that has not been mentioned as a concealed carry is an old Star PD. You may have a time finding one. I have had two (2) and regret selling both.

A relatively basic 1911 like this one. No frills, just what you need.

I've got a Rock Island Arms 3.5" compact that's taken everything I've fed it without a hiccup. Best <$500 gun I've ever had. Not at all hard to carry either.

For a revolver I prefer the S&W Model 625.... if a bottom feeder then a CZ-97 is real hard to beat.

I have a Springfield 1911, M&P, a HK USP, and a P220. I like them all but the P220 is the most accurate for me, but not by much.

My most accurate .45 is a 25-9 .45 Colt.

Lower budget I'd go with a Glock 36, if you can swing it I'd track down an HK-45c. Most of those 1911s are heavy for extended carry.

As far as the Rock Island goes I've put 11,000 rounds through mine and its still working as well as it did the day I bought it. That was in my early USPSA days. Now I shoot 9MM from my CZ 75 TS. It is a challenge to shoot minor in Limited. You have got to be on target or you suffer big time if your shot is not in the A Zone.

As far as 45's go your options are only limited by your wallet or credit line. Personally I like my FN and my HK45 but I love my 25-2.

I have been looking at .45's lately.I currently carry a S&W 642 but I like the stopping power of the .45.Today I looked at a Glock Mdl.36 which is about the physical size I want.Any other recommendations will be greatly appreciately.Thanks.

I carried a 442 for over a year. I then went to a Ruger LC9. I carried it for almost a year also. Back in July I went to a Kimber Ultra Carry II .45ACP. The Kimber is almost the same size as the Ruger. Granted, the Ruger fully loaded weights in at around 21oz. The Kimber with 8 rounds is a little over 31oz.

Like others have said, "It is up to you". I am 65 years old and I just wanted the extra power of a .45. The Kimber is an expensive firearm, but I got a deal from a dealer going out of business.

Here is picture of my rig. Holster, gunbelt, and mag pouch were all made by Lobo Gunleather, (Ray is a member of this forum).

Have a great day.....

SW M&P .45 Sold it
4513TSW Awesome CCW weapon
CS 45 Awesome CCW
But the best I may not own yet.. I just bought a Sig P239 in 357 Sig The SAS model with the Short Rest Trigger (SRT) and custom shop dehorning.
The P220 in .45 ACP comes in this configuration..P220 CarrySAS Gen 2 I personally will be looking for one and selling one of my others. The P239 in 357 Sig is poetry in steel! WOW
Now that I finished that rant... buy what is comfortable to carry and is reliable.
