.45 GAP

The .45 GAP is a short .45 ACP. Some say Gaston Glock wanted his own cartridge so the .45 GAP was born. Again, some say the .45 ACP is superior to the .45 GAP but ballistically they are really close. So close that I don't thing anyone or anything shot with the .45 GAP would notice the difference :) Commercial ammo is available here in Washington State competetively priced. I have a Glock Model 37 chambered in .45 GAP. I also have a Glock Model 21 in .45 ACP. The G21is a large handgun for my medium size hands. I shoot it well, but I really have to work at it. The G37 on the other hand has a G22 .40 caliber frame and fits my hand very well. Shooting it isn't such a chore and it's easier to carry concealed. Springfield Armory chambers one of their "wonder guns" in .45 GAP. I don't know which model though. Hope this helps.

As I have heard the .45GAP is basicly a shortened .45ACP to allow Glock to chamber it in a 9mm / .40S&W sized frame.

GAP = Glock Automatic Pistol

Look around and compare availability of the ammo and prices. My son-in-law has one, says he has to drive up to St. Louis to find a store that carries it and it's a lot higher in price than the "regular" .45 ammo. From what I see online, about .06 or more a round higher.

As noted above. Personally I think that shortening the 45 ACP isn't that wise, IMO the 45 GAP will be much more sensitive to setback than the 45 ACP. However, at the pressure levels generated it may not be that big of a deal.

Pardon my ignorance. But isn't the 45 gap a shortened 45 acp that is run at higher pressure to get 45 acp performance? Much the same as the 308 is to the 30-06? I just want to know for sure.

Thanks, John

Well I'm a crusty opinionated old cuss . I don't care for the Glocks as they don't fit my hand . Tried it & sold it . I like & know my 1911's . I also fail to see what the 45GAP can do that a 45acp can't . I also have large hands so that may be why . I also fail to see how a weapon & cartridge that have over a 100yrs of sucess in putting bad guys where they belong can be improved on . Granted it's an old design , but it's a mighty effective one too . Just my two cents . Many things about a handgun are subjective . Carry what you like & I'll do the same .
