Just out of curiosity, i'm wondering if dry firing a 4506 can damage the firing pin or other parts. I never make a habit out of dry firing any of my firearms, but I was just thinking about it since i bought it a few weeks ago.

Not gonna hurt the 4506. Fine shotguns, some rifles, and all rim fire guns shout not be dry-fired, but you ain't gonna hurt a 4506 with dry firing. I think if I kept track of the dry-firing I would be in the multiple millions of times with my handguns, covering several decades and over 100 guns. Never a tiny bit of damage done that way. Snap caps for rimfires but never with anything else.

Dry-fire to your hearts content. Those pistols are tanks!
I concur with Squidsix, for many rimfires & some shotguns it is best not to dry-fire, but most pistols are just fine. Great practice. No snap-cap needed, but you can use them if desired.

I'm a belt and suspenders kinda guy -- I dry fire fairly often but ALWAYS use snap caps. They're cheap and why not the extra precaution?

Because I don't ever dry-fire with a mag in place, and I cycle the action to produce reset between double and single action dry firing. If I used snap caps for this, I would have to stop and pick them up and reload the mag.

This is also why the magazine disconnect comes out of anything and everything that comes with one in my possession. NOT SAFE to dry fire with a magazine, in my experience. NO MAGS AROUND while dry firing.
