Hello all, I finally took my 4506 to the range, but had a small issue.
First I'll start at the beginning, please bear with me.

I purchased the 4506 back in September from a fellow member.
After picking it up from my FFL I was checking the function of it (using snap caps) and noticed right off it had the dreaded "trigger click".
After contacting the seller he gave me a small refund to cover the cost of replacing the trigger play spring.

The other day I finally had some time to fix it. I started by disassembling the pistol and gave it a good cleaning.
I then installed a new trigger play spring and a Wolf type 1 service pak and a new set of Hogue grips.

I also disassembled the 10 used 8 round mags, cleaned and reassembled them.
With the gun reassembled I again tested the function, everything worked as it should. [emoji106]

Today I went to the range and fired 160 rounds through it, the gun shot good.
But it only held the slide open 3 times out of 20 after the last round was fired. The slide would close 95% of the way.

Finally I get to my question, do I need to replace all of my mag springs, or is there another issue that would cause this problem?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and wisdom.

Look closely at the follower shelf where it will contact the slide stop. On some guns with plastic followers the steel stop over time will wear the plastic until it will not push the slide stop up enough to catch the slide.

If that's the case you'll need new followers. Otherwise springs like your thinking.

I looked them over when I cleaned them, but it never hurts to take another look.
Also 2 of the mags are 645's with the aluminum follower.

I had the same issue with my 4006 that I bought with three mags. I replaced the mag springs and that resolved the problem. I'm pretty sure my gun was a HD gun that was loaded up about 20 years ago and left in the drawer since then. Good luck with your 4506. It's a great gun and well worth doing what it takes to get it running properly.

Factory loads or reloads? Did the problem exist with multiple magazines or just one or two? Are you sure the recoil spring is the correct weight?

Nice name BTW. I had a V45 Sabre in the early 90's. I always wanted a 65 Magna. Never got one.

Factory, Winchester and Federal.
I filled each mag twice, and all 10 failed to hold the slide open. I know nothing is impossible but 10 mags with bad springs?
I can not say for sure on the recoil spring weight, I installed the one that came in the Wolf Type 1 service pak. I assume it's stock weight.

10 mags failures will almost eliminate them as the cause. Try the simple stuff first. I would put the old recoil spring back in and try that. If not check the slide stop. If the slide stop works with an empty mag and hand cycling it I would tend to suspect the recoil spring or the ammo.

When you say the slide would close 95% what exactly do you mean?

As dated as they are I still like the old V-4's. Much like older S&W's I guess.

The slide stop dose work when hand cycled.
I will take the old recoil spring, another brand of ammo and I also have a new unopened mag the next trip to the range.

These pics are a simulation of what was happening.

Two things bother me about the first pic.

There is some sort of rub mark on the side of the slide just above the slide stop lever. It looks like maybe the pistol was run with the lever not fully installed, and rubbing against the slide? Is that even possible?

Also, the safety/decocking lever looks over-rotated, sitting above horizontal. Just doesn't look right.

The "rub mark" on the slide was there when I got the pistol. The slide will not cycle with the slide stop "not fully installed".
With the safety/decocker in the up position it is slightly above horizontal.

.

Not long ago after I cleaned one of my 3rd Gens & reassembled it, I noticed mine wasn't horizontal. After removing & reinstalling it was fine.

.

I will give it a try, as soon as I find time.

Honestly, I didn't notice if it was like that before.

Update:

2nd range trip I lubed the **** out of the slide stop plunger and used a bran new mag, the pistol still failed to hold the slide open.
So I tried a couple different brands of ammo, same issue.
Swapped out the recoil spring, still no love.[emoji37]

3rd range trip, I installed a new slide stop.......

SUCCESS!!!!
It held the slide open using all 11 mags.[emoji106]

It now functions flawlessly.[emoji4]

I thank you all for your help.
