I think you bought it right. The prices on 3rd gens has been going up. That model is not real easy to find. Congrads on a great find.

I notice yours has smith & wesson grips. I think there was a recall on those grips. Most of the 4516's I've seen have Hogue's. I guess alot of people switched them out rather than send them back for replacements

I am aware of a recall on some 3rd gen grips, since this isn't an EDC carry gun i am not very concerned, although i may buy some new grips eventually. The prices for a 4516 magazine at a gun show are a bit crazy.

Nice find!

One of the local shops has a 4566 with six mags for $575 but I'm letting it go. I want it but there are other guns (and other things) I want more.

I too am interested to know why the grips were recalled. Please explain when convenient.

Thanks

As I recall, when the 3rd gens were first released, the grip material.....Delrin?....was a bit brittle and would sometimes fracture if the gun was dropped.

S&W recalled the grips and issued identical looking grips made from more resilient material.......Xenoy?.....

Anyways, you can tell whether you have the newer grips by looking at the grip bottom for two dimples. That tells you they are the replacement grips S&W issued. Hope that helps! Regards 18DAI

I had one of these that I bought new when they came out. I found it was too heavy for my use. I sold it after it sat in the safe for many years.

I have a 4516 use at the range due to the weight. Also, a 457 I sometimes carry.
Just wish the trigger on the 4516 was as nice as the one on the 457.

Just got back from a range trip a little while ago and finished cleaning up the guns i shot today. The 4516 was flawless although the factory grips are a bit slippery in my hands, Installed a set of Hogue rubber grips i bought at a local shop. Also got some time in with an M&P 9c and my 586 no dash. Everything worked perfectly.

So are you happy you got it then?

A 45xx is on my short list. I've been on a 3rd Gen binge in 2016. The revolver prices have become insane.
