I just finished cleaning my Webley Mk VI (see the thread in the Lounge "Gone shootin'). My load of 3.0 grs of Bullseye behind a 265 gr cast SWC burns very dirty, so I think the pressure is pretty low. My brass is the Hornady .455 Mk II which is the short case; 0.750" long. Rather than fumble around in the dark, can someone point me towards published loading data for the .455 using the Mk II case, which is the short case?

Thanks, ddixie884. Interesting post. I can probably use the Lee data. It looks like my 3.0 grs of Bullseye is a little low; no wonder I was getting a lot of soot.

If you have access to a copy of Pet Loads by Ken Waters, you can look up some loads in it. Reprints of the .455 article used to be available from Wolf Publishing for under $10, maybe they still are.

I think Cartridges of the World may also have some data.

The loads I have developed for my Colt .455 are for use in the longer (0.88") case.

Here's thread right here on the S&W Forum:

Also google Handloads.com. They have a page on the .455 Webley. They suggest 3.8 gr. of Bullseye for 750 fps. with the 265 gr. HBRN bullet.

As to Cartridges of the World, mine (11th Edition) only lists one load, 5.0 gr. of Unique for 610 fps. with a "260 gr. lead" bullet. (Don't know where they got that from as the standard bullet was a 265 gr. hollow base.)

Geez... I guess I need to get mine out to the range again...

:) Stuart
