Perhaps one of the esteemed board members here could answer a question or direct me to a website;
Are ALL of the manufactured 4596 considered "Lew Horton" models or only some? I've seen pictures showing the model number on the pistol and I believe that some had rounded trigger guards while another had the squared off style. Is this possible?
Thanks,
The Capt.

All were Lew Hortons' with less than 500 made. All were on a 4506-1 frame so should be round guard only, although that doesn't keep someone from putting a 4516 slide on a full size frame.

Heres mine.Wish it was round.

I'm glad it's not! You own my Favorite S&W Auto on the Forum! All I've ever seen is the Squared trigger Guard versions......Zeb

All 4596's I've ever seen, excluding "homemade", were square guard as well. Regards 18DAI.

Deereman...how about some more pics of yours? C'mon, you know you want to......

Well, I purchased one on the net. After looking around it appears to be a fair deal. It does have the rounded trigger guard so I suppose it was "customized". Question how can I find what the maximum barrel pressure is ? It's suppose to have the 4516-1 slide assembly and I need to know if it will accept 230+P ammo
Thanks
The Capt'n.

This gun should have no trouble handling 230+P ammo. Max pressure on a 45 is approx 21K 45acp is a low pressure round when compared to 40 10mm with pressures of 35K or more.Winchester Ranger SXT in +P moves at approx 950 fps.

This is the reason for my question. According to Winchester their 230 Ranger T has a pressure of 21,000 psi while the 230 Ranger T+P equals 23,000 psi.
It's right on the border line and I don't like the idea of tap dancing in a mine field !

Be sure to post pics of it...there aren't that many around. We'd love to see it! Zeb

My Law Enf agency issues the SXT + P ammo in 9mm and 45acp. We can only use this ammo.(no exceptions) It is used with Beretta 92F HK 45 S&W 4506 series and now Sig 220. I don't think we would be using this ammo if there was a problem with the pressure of this round generates.

Thanks for the input all.
