IMHO, TK Custom. However I use EZ Moon clips (polymer) at the range because they are easier to load/unload....no tool needed.

The full moons S&W sells in packs of 4 are Ranch Products clips. If you need reliable clips that you can count on retaining the cartridges there are none better. I vote for buying a bag of 100 full moons direct from Ranch Products. I fill them and empty them at home. It is not that hard.

another shout for Rimz... range only... factory or Ranch for carry... I have not experience with TK... pricey and people speak highly of them, so probably decent...

Wilson combat steel moonclips. None of this plastic I've been hearing about. Loaded with my fingers. Unloaded with a cut tube. Some Guinness or a nice dunkel. Call it a day.

I also like and use Wilson Combat. I just purchased a moon clip loader/unloader that takes all the effort out of loading and unloading moon clips. Here's the instruction sheet that came with it.

The beauty of the .45 ACP round in a revolver, using moon clips, is that you don't need $7 moon clips. You are buying nothing for the extra $6.60 per clip you would be spending over the Ranch Products clips (that's realistic as I believe that RP clips can be had for $40/100 - although it has been a while. The last ones I got were $35/100 and that is probably a lifetime supply). .45 ACP guns, with the short, fat, round nose heavy profile work well with a little jiggle in the clip. They literally self-align.

Just because they are inexpensive does not mean that RP clips are sub-par. They are high quality clips.

Don't get me wrong - there are guns and calibers where the $7 clips are absolutely needed in order to accomplish the fastest reload - fortunately, the .45 ACP guns aren't in that group.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

REMEMBER: The cost of the moon clip is directly proportional to the likelihood of the RO stepping on it.

I have been an active S&W 45 ACP shooter since 1990. I totally recommend Ranch Products for 45 Moonclips. Wilson clips may well be made by Ranch, just a guess. You can bet Wilson doesn't stamp them in his facility but you do pay extra for the name.

I own some RIMZ clips but haven't used them in years. I usually load lots of moonclips in my shop before going to a match or range practice.

I have been using the Ranch products in all my Smith and Wessons for decades

J-frames, L-frames and N-frames chambered in 9MM, 10MM, 357 Magnum, 356TSW, 9x23 Winchester, and of course 45ACP.

I sit watching the news the night before I shoot and load up 10-20-30 or more clips. The night after shooting, I sit in the same chair and de-moon those clips. Works great

I will not use the plastic RIMZ clips. If you drop the clip the cartridges pop right out.

Rimz probably work just as poorly if carried in a pocket

I've used both RIMZ and Steel moon clips, both will do the job. As others have said, if carrying for serious social purposes steel is the way to go. At the range the polymer clips work just fine.

One note on the RIMZ clips, they make two versions. The ones marked "25" will fit the older Model 25s and all 625s. They are also made of a stiffer material.

The RIMZ "625" has a smaller ID and will only fit 625s fitted with the new style extractor (-6 and newer). I have a 5-screw Model 1955 Target and found this out the hard way. This version is also made with a softer material.

The above is not an issue with the steel clips. One size fits all.

As I said earlier, I am a big fan of Ranch Products. However, Rimz makes a moonclips suitable for competition and carry purposes. Drop it and you don’t lose rounds.

I still prefer steel. Ranch Products for me.

I’ll be that guy, but I’m a huge fan of the Speed Beez clips. I use them for both my 625 and 627.
