Hello, I'm looking for night sights and strongly considering the XS big dot sights. I'm getting older (53) and my eyes are not as good as days past. So,how big is the dot? Could someone measure the dot, the triitium vial and the overall height with a set of calipers? Are the XS rears tritium or just painted. Has anyone tried them with the std M&P rear or with any rear that has a single tritium dot. I also like the Sevigney 2 dot tritium carry sights. Anyway, I guess I'm looking for a way to use the XS big dot and some other rear with a single tritium insert. Thanks, all. - Pitch

I no longer have Big Dots on my pistol so I can't provide a measurement but I will say I found the front dot to be way too big... Perhaps the standard dot would have been a better choice for me? I don't know. Honestly I liked the idea of the sights but I found it too difficult to be satisfactorily accurate at any distance past, say, 10 yards or so and I struggled more with indexing front and rear sights to get a proper sight picture (vertically-speaking) than I was comfortable with.

I have since switched to Ameriglo Pro Operators on all of my pistols. My Glock has a plain black serrated rear with an orange Luminova/green tritium front sight ... a very good middle ground between standard sights and the Big Dots IMO.

On my recently purchased M&P9C I have Ameriglo's Bowie Tactical Operators with yellow tritium rear and green tritium front... I am growing to love this combo even more than the setup on my Glock because the rear sight does not have the white outlines around the tritium tubes, making it less conspicuous during daylight hours, but in low light the tritium takes over... Highly recommended!

From what I understand the Big Dot rear sight on the M&P is painted rather than tritium. If you prefer the dot over dot sight picture then you may want to check out the Heinie Straight 8 sights as well.

If you look at the xs website, you'll see the "express" set has a painted white bar in the rear while the "24/7" set has the tritium bar with white outline. That said, I just returned a standard dot "24/7" sight set that I purchased from Midway for my M&P 9c. Turns out it was the Express set advertised as the 24/7. ( Their mistake, cheerfully refunded.)Some quick research on the net indicates that xs only offers the Express line for the M&P at this time. ( I'm not 100% on this but found this statement in several places.) I.E., if you order, you will likely get the white bar /express set.
As for dot size, I have the standard xs dot (24/7) on my Browning Hi-Power and find it pretty nice. Still easy to acquire fast but gives up nothing for more precise shooting (IMHO)

I have the standard dot on both my 40c and 40fs. I find them to be the best sight I have tried for a self defense weapon that is going to used under stress. The big dot was a little overkill for me but the standard dot is great.
XS says that there isn't enough metal in the rear sight to put a trituim vile in the rear. But in my practice and experience I don't need it any way. Put the green dot on target and squeeze. Anymore glowing objects in my sight plane just confuses a simple minded country fella such as myself. Besides, the MP ergonomics are such that the weapon lines itself up for me and points where my finger points. No other weapon has ever done that for me. Everybody's hands are different and it may not do that for you. If it doesn't, find a weapon that will and it makes sights almost obsolete anyway.
