Other than limited editions - Performance Center Guns - the new Classic series - when was the last regular production 45LC model made? How high did the number series go 25-7 25-8?

Sir, I have a 25-9 that I bought new in 1990. It's just a regular ol' gun, not Performance Center, Mountain Gun, or limited edition of any kind. I've seen dash numbers as high as 14. Whether they all count as "regular production" I don't know.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

That's a good question, and one that should be answered in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (Third Edition) by Supica & Nahas.

I've had too many cocktails to (want to) research it now but, based on the previous posts, my 25-5 is still a relatively early production gun...

This is my Model 25-9. Kind of wondering when this gun was made. Anyone have any idea.
Also, how could a 25-5 have a non-pinned barrel and a 25-9 have a pinned barrel?

I've never seen a 25-9 that was pinned. The 25-9's that I have seen came along in late '89-early'90.

Are you sure that it isn't a 25-5? If it is, they were only pinned between their introduction in 1978 until about late '82.

My old weak eyes see 25-9. Going out in the sun and look again.
After much squinting, using a flashight and magnifying glass, my bad, it is a 25-5. Makes you wonder why I'm shooting handguns, doesn't it?
Oh, and thanks for giving me an approximate date.

No problem. I thought I might get an education here today! As everyone keeps saying- "Never say never with S&W"

jimmyjoe,
Isn't the finish on that 25-7 more of a baked-on type rather than a standard blue? A friend of mine had one like it, and it was the best shooting .45 Colt revolver I'd ever had my hands on! Until your picture, I'd never seen another like it.

The finish is a bead blasted blued finish, not baked on. Here's another one for you to see.
