A local pawn shop has a early 1984 "TAA" serial numbered 469 for sale. It's in a bright/polished nickel finish. I've seen several threads about the Ashland special edition variant in a brushed nickel but, did S&W ever make one in a polished nickel finish?

Pictures are always helpful. Does the gun have any additional markings on it besides the normal S&W logo? What grips and sights are on it? Ashland had special grips, sights, trigger and ambi safety. Based on the TAA serial number it might be one of the Ashland as I thought M469's had the 'A" prefix.

Don't know, but if the nickel is in great shape, I'd jump on it.

What kind of price are you talking about? The only nickel auto I know of is the 59 9mm and those command quite a premium. I love Smith's nickel, and as long as it's not discolored or splochy (from people who use Hoppe's on it), it might be a keeper.

Good advice, Buy it if the price is right.

for 1st and 2nd gen guns, Model 39, 39-2, 439, 539, 59, 459 and 559 all have nickel finishes.

I personally haven't seen the pistol. A friend sent me pictures. Price tag says $699, which seems a little steep, but I think pawn shops mark up 100% from their cost. I'm trying to figure out if it was re-finished at some point. I don't know if it has the original box and associated materials.

Given that the extractor, slide stop, safety, trigger, and possibly the hammer too, are polished and plated, I'd guess it is an aftermarket plating.
Thanks. I was thinking the same, but wasn't sure. I owned a 669 in the late 80s and I have seen the brushed nickel 469s, and I thought they all had black/blued control parts. But, it's been years since I've seen one in person.

I've seen the Ashland 469 guns for sale online for around that price so keep your eyes open for the real deal. If you find one that looks like TNZ71's gun above I'd grab it at the right price. The original box and extra factory mags would be a nice bonus.

As I mentioned above, I had a 669 years ago. Back then, if I wanted to upgrade to something else, I had to trade up. Now that I'm older and have a little more play money, I have been going back and buying the models I traded away. The nickel 469 is nice and would fill the spot in the collection, but if I stumble across a nice 669 locally, that might get picked up too.
