Hi everyone. New member. I'm betting you get millions of these posts, but I'm trying to find an approximate value. 625-8, 5" version, made in 2003. Not a mark on it. Thing looks brand new. Box, papers, etc. Crimson Trace grips.

Any idea what they go for? Not interested in selling it, just curious.

Thanks!

According to the 4th ed. of the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, the 625-8 had a retail price in 2002-2006 of $767.00. Now that was then, I just paid $900 for a 625-2 in excellent condition. I've been looking for one for a long time and they're hard to come by. I did see a few at a gun show in Reno earlier this month for about the same price and higher. Being from CA, I couldn't buy one then. Today, a new 625 JM with a 4" barrel has a basic price of about $900 and one from the Performance Center is about $1000. How much is yours worth? I really comes down to how badly you might want to sell it and how badly the buyer wants it. Now many traditionalist shy away from anything 625-6 and above due to the addition of the internal lock and the use of MIM hammers and triggers at that point. Still, I'd say $850 to $900 would be a good starting point to value your revolver. I almost forgot, the Crimson Trace grips should add at least another 2-300 to the value. Now, let's wait and see what the real experts have to say. Here's mine.

I bought a 625-8 with the 5" barrel for my first gun and back then I paid about $700.00 OTD. I had the opportunity to try both the 5" and 4" and frankly I thought that the 5" model (full underlug) felt more balanced. It IS; by far, one of the best SA triggers of all the handguns I own and I would even compare it to my Colt Python. Better yet; I don't ever worry about wrecking the value of some collectable icon by using it! Of course, I would never take less than $900.00 for it because they are so great (and kind'a hard to find!) My best advice is to shoot the "heck" out of it and buy lot's of moonclips since that makes everything so much easier!

Thanks, guys. I bought it from my boss, who acquired it when his uncle passed away recently. I paid $700 for it, so I'm thinking I got a good deal on it, as it came with the Crimson Trace grips and a set of very nice wooden grips, as well. No moon clips, though. I had to buy some off eBay. No biggie. Got a set of 8 for about $9.

The gun is immaculate. Not a blemish anywhere. Apparently the guy just kept it in his nightstand for home defense. I wanted one of these for years, so I'm pretty stoked.

Thanks again for the help, guys.

David, you did good! Were you wearing your Jesse James mask when you purchased it? It has been a few years since I purchased any Crimson Trace grips and they did not come cheap. Now you need to post a picture or two.

Lets see if I can figure out how...

David, welcome to the forum! I think you did great on your purchase. Gun looks to have been used very little and well cared for. Be sure to let us know how it shoots!
