Local shop has a mint five screw 38 pre model 10. However, there are two initials in the side plate below the screw. Each is about 3/8 inches high and fairly deep. Can these be removed or should I just keep looking?

If it were going to be a shooter the price may be right. If you are a collector I'd look elsewhere. Just my .02

Another option would be to purchase the revolver and then look for a replacement sideplate. They are out there. The model 10 is very common.
