I am seeing a few posts & threads about the Model 500 "BREAKING" This past Sunday I shot my 1,000th round through it. I have owned my 500 for over 10yrs. I have never had any issues with it. I keep all my guns crazy clean and well oiled/lubed. In my Model500 I have shot anything from the no longer made .500 special to .600 grain rounds. My favorites are a 325gr or a 350gr. I take great care of all my guns. I own a Colt King Cobra .357 with over 50,000 rounds through it, S&W Model 64 with 25,000 rounds and my duty weapon (M&P .40) with over 12,000 rounds through it. My dad always said, "Take care of your gun, your life might depend on it."
I am sorry that some of my fellow shooters had issues with your gun. Just had to throw my 2 cents.....

They’re high quality, rugged revolvers and will give many years and thousands of rounds of accurate service. Don

Mine has just under 300 rounds through it, and on shot 297 the cylinder stopped cycling in single action. I posted on here about it and have sent it back to S&W. Oddly enough, it works in double action mode just fine, but I stopped shooting it once the SA problem occurred.

I own two 500s, a standard production 6-1/2" model and a PC 7-1/2" model, both of which have seen several hundred of my handloads loaded from mild to wild. Neither is worse for the wear, and both still lock up as tight as when I got them.

And I am sure there are some 500 Mag owners out there with ten times as many rounds through theirs as I have through mine...and they're still going strong!

Of course I am still waiting for some of the S&W 44 mags that I have had in my collection for close to twenty years to break.

So far, so good!
