A friend wants to know if I will trade my 646 for his 4 inch square butt 547, even up. The two revolvers are in like new shape, with box and paperwork.

Do you guys think this is a fair deal? If not, who owes some "boot" money to who?

I think that is a very fair "even up" trade considering the recent market (going back a year or so).

P.S. I owned two 4" 547s and one 646 before I sold all of my non-C&R S&Ws.

Don't really know what a model 646 is but it would take a lot to get a model 547 away from me. Sorry no help but the experts will be along to tell you.

I would also assume the prices of both revolvers would be very similar..
I haven't ever fired a 646 & would love to try a 40s&w revolver, I already have a 547 4" & Love it quite a bit, it's a real shooter & with ammo prices what they are I get by fairly cheap with the 547..
Fair Swap?? I'd say So!!

Both of these revolvers are pretty scarce, in my area of the country, I have a 646 that I really like, but I don't have a 547 to compare it to.

I have both, and I think it's a fair deal. I do believe that a dealer would get a little more for a 547, because interest is higher.

If I had to get rid of one, I'd keep the 646, but that's just me.

I have a 646 that I couldnt part with easily. I know the 9mms are scarce, but I think the 646s are even more so....unless there is a specific reason you want the 9, I would say stick with what you got.

No, it's not just you. +1

I heard 900 of the non PC guns, maybe 900 total, I'm not too up on the figures. I know I have two and I'm keeping them.

I almost did that exact trade about 2 years ago. I took my unfired 3" 547 to a gunshow in Minneapolis with a pretty high price on it, just to see if there were any collectors there. The closest I came, besides tire kickers, was a dealer wanted to trade his 646pc for mine straight up. I thought about it till was ready to leave, and decided to take the 547 home.

Target Tech, you made a good call on that one. The 646PC models had some issues that were not present on the approximately 900 non PC models built. I have 2 of the non PC 646s, and a 3" 547. I foolishly let my 4" 547 go some years ago. They made fewer 4" then 3" in the 547. Of course I have a thing for auto caliber wheelguns.

thanks guys.

Thanks,
At the time the toss up was blued steel and walnut VS. stainless/Ti and rubber. When you whittle it down to that, it's a no brainer.
