I managed to pick this up late last year, came across it online like I normally do, was surprised it was a round butt frame so I did some searching and saw where the made the 586 pre lock in a -4 as a round butt for only a couple of years, it didn't come with any box or papers and someone had it cut for moon clips but I'm happy with it and it's one of my best shooting revolvers I own.

Man, your -4 is gorgeous! I have a -3 with the bead blast black finish. It is a great shooter and one of my favorites. It will be one of the last ones to go when the time comes to pass the collection on. Here is a photo.

Thank you sir! I remember seeing the bead blast -3 with the round butts. Mine came with the factory rubber hogue grips but I added some altamonte grips to mine. It's probably in my top 3 of my favorite revolvers so far. Smooth robust, and a pleasure to shoot. I also have a 686-1 2.5 inch snubby that was only made for 1 year in the -1 variation.

Just my opinion....

The -4 Engineering change is the best when it comes to M586's....

I only have one M586-4 - a crummy old 3" - but I'm learning to like it. :D

Yes sir, you are correct as they are drilled and tapped and have all the upgrades, and pre lock to boot. Nice 3 inch! Those are hard to find and a pretty penny when you do. That's why I'll never get rid of my 66-4 snub 2.5 inch as it's the best iteration of the 66 pre lock.

And don't forget pre-MIM too...:)
