I'd like to have a 586 for bullseye type participation because not many use revolvers.

My other target gun is a 17-6 with a six inch barrel. It feels good, well balanced.

What are your thoughts on the 8" barrel? Too long for the competition shooting?

Length is good for Bullseye. Longer sight radius generally means greater precision. It's not that they're inherently more accurate, but you will see errors in your sight alignment better.

My one concern might be that 8 3/8 inches of full lug barrel might be a bit more weight than I could hold out there one handed. Weight is generally good in a target gun though. I just don't know.
