5906 value

I recently sold a NOS 1994 vintage 5906 with a total of 8 magazines for $900 shipped so the price is reasonable. Joe

That seems a bit high. There are a fair number of 5906s on the auction sites that sold for $500 +/-; albeit none I could find were as new with the original box, papers, etc.
What are you going to do with the 5906 if you buy it? Top price point, so it may not see much appreciate for years as a collector's piece. Too much to pay for a shooter.
Well I bought it. The owner worked for S&W back in the 80/90s, this gun was gone through by the performance center and the same work up as the Mexican Sf contract gun. He has all the documentation. It’s like literally fitted frame/slide/barrel. The thing looks like a mag was fired, trigger is like a super crisp. Came with the holster too.
I had one of these when they came out in 1988. I traded my Browning HiPower for it, that was mistake #1, then sold the 5906 in 1990 for a SIg P226, mistake number 2. I was in college and could not keep them all. Well picked up NIB 1986 Browning FN polished blue HiPower 2 months ago with box etc. Now I found this, lol. I still have the Sig. The HP was my first handgun when I turned 21, the 5906 was the second. Got them back.
What do you think?

You've wanting one and that quest has concluded, at least for now. Enjoy it in any manner that suits you. It's a nice looking pistol.

Nice! Interesting that a TCM prefix has the Novak rear sight. My TCR 5906 has the older style, plus it still has the hooked trigger guard.

It is a beautiful time capsule and I see that the test target has a very specific date on it. I will also say that nobody ever got a teat target with a regular production 5906.
With these things said, I believe there is something off about the date and/or the story. This does not change a thing with the pistol, which looks like a moment in time captured and that’s extremely cool.
But I genuinely question the existence of the Performance Center in June of 1989. I believe it was a year or two later than that.
Well I will never know for sure, this is coming from the friend of the original owner. Perhaps this is just a unique example

According to the original owner the PC started in early 1990, was the obvious tuning done by PC people 6 months early It’s a fun story, who knows for sure, but for $875 shipped and insured with a nice holster for a as new gun. I’m not complaining. I will shoot it a couple times, I’m not in this too make money, I just like time capsule guns.

If owner worked for SW, it would not be uncommon to update / retrofit to new slide with Novak sights. Box end photo - Product Code - would document original configuration.
I know of several early 3904/3906 (TCF, TCL, & TCU) which were retrofitted with Night Sights - one of which is a 3904 (TCU) I now own which shipped 5/89 with early fixed sights and went back to SW and was retrofitted with a silver slide with night sights and shipped by SW a second time 6/93.
I have also seen a very early 5906 or 6906 (cant remember exact details) that as I recall was originally owned by a high up SW engineer and was documented as converted for him to Novak sights after they came out.

It’s got Novak night sights, from my understanding this work was completed for said employee by PC people, or were these the Smiths the folks became the PC shop staff 6 months later? I’m not sure the owner is getting up there in years so memory and such are gonna be tested after 35+ years. Anyone remember a Olimpio Victorino? His name is on the paper work.
Here is a photo of the box, ser# 81xx, so it’s a very early 1988 gun, which matches up with the owner stating he had people at S&W do work to it after he had purchased it.

Prod Code 104008 would be early Fixed Sight. Spec Ord 9104 would be 104th day (April) of 1989. Not sure when Night Sites became available (~1993?) - most likely a later retrofit circa 1993 like my 3904. That would certainly be credible for a SW employee.
Congratulations, looks amazing. You are able fix the mistakes of the past…. Looking forward to hearing how it shoots compared to a regular 5906. Looking for a 5906 myself. Need to look harder
I saw a 5906TSW in a pawn shop today. I was actually looking for something else, so didn't notice it on the first pas through. Looked very clean. Listed at $749.99, which I thought was high, but I'm probably just cheap.

I'd say that would be a decent price if it were a clean example. For me, the TSWs were the pinnacle of the 3rd Gens and incorporated a lot of the technical improvements of the PC guns. I believe the 4006TSW and 3913TSW were probably the most common of the series, but I don't have any production numbers to back that assumption. I have a 5906TSW, but my has a significant amount of holster service, I'm always looking to upgrade to a better example if one were to present itself at a decent price point.

I don't dispute even a bit that the later TSW guns were the pinnacle or 3rd Gens. I have both a 3913TSW and 3953TSW. Both shoot better than I do.
I just don't have a place for a 5906TSW unless I sold my two other 59xx guns and the 915.
In other news I was a gun shop/gun smith today looking around. The had an early 5904 adjustable sites, square trigger guard. Good price at $450.00 and if didn't have a 915, I'd have given it serious consideration. Also a 952-2 which looked new at $4,100.00.
