Hi I looking for some help with a S&W 45acp mag problem. I recently bought a S&W 457 45acp pistol. I had in my mags box six what I thought were 4516 magazines. so I tried one in the gun and it would not lock in on the mag button and all six are the same. when i checked the mag in the gun it says 7rnd "For S&W 4516-1 only. not for use in S&W 4516 or any other revisions of M4516" In the S&W 4thEd on page 377 the 4513TSW & page 378 4553TSW both state six rnds. The message on my 7rnd mag seems to suggest the 4516 is normally 6rnd but the 4ed says 7rnds and what are my 6 x 6rnd mags actually for. Be glad of any info, Thanks GS

Thanks For Your Help I found a 7rnd 4516 mag on ebay $65.00 delivered so now have a one spare GS

Early pre rail 4513TSW guns used six round magazines. That is what you have. IIRC, those magazines are interchangeable with the CS45.

Even if they are not you should not have any problem selling them.

The six round magazines for the CS45 have indentions where as the 4513TSW do not.

Both would be easy to sell/trade if you go that way. I’d suggest holding on to them because who knows. It’s a good reason to get a CS45 or Pre-Rail 4513TSW too.

Thanks. I always forget that part because my experience is with the pre rail 3913/53TSW guns and the CS9. Those magazines swap.

You got it right Gary. The TSW magazines work in the CS’s and the CS’s work in the TSW’s.

That said I tried it at the range with no issues but I would only use the CS magazines in the CS when I was depending on it. I don’t see why the CS mags wouldn’t always be flawless in the TSW. Interesting that the 6 rnd 945 magazines appear to be just modified CS mags.

Hey maybe there’s two notches in London Armoury’s 6 rnd mags. Ka ching $$$

457, 4516, 4516-1, 4516-2, late 4513TSW are 7 rd. Early 4513TSW were 6 rd. Early 4516 no dash reportedly had feed issues. Mags , slides, feed ramp, and possibly other internals were changed and pistol became 4516-1. Color of folowers was changed (Orange to Yellow?) and 4516-1 mags were so marked. 4516-1 mods did not appear to solve all feed issues or possibly created different issues in some pistols, hence the 4516-2 which also had dual recoil spring (which was retrofitted to some 4516 no dash to solve problem). 4516-2 mags were different from 4516 and 4516-1 mags at top and had black followers. The late 4516-2 mags with black followers are same as 457 and late 7 rd 4513TSW. Early 4513TSW and CS45 were 6 rd but CS45 had a vertical groove not present in the 4513TSW 6 rd, but in general I believe the 6 rd mags can be used in either the CS45 or the 4513TSW - though as pointed out elsewhere, I would only interchange for range use.

Indentation at the top of the CS45 mag is to prevent top cartridge from sliding forward under recoil and jamming the gun when slide picks it up.

For me it's usually the last round in the magazine that pops out completely & bounces across the floor with the slide locked back. :p

.

I had this issue with the 4013 and 4053 single stack mags. Had the spacer fall out of one and decided to go ahead and use the 10mm follower. This problem went away even with 40S&W rnds. Went ahead and converted the 4013 to 1013 and about 5 mags. Haven't had a round jump out since with those mags and gun.
