60 Pro Series

OK, I've tried the search function and gotten reams of hits, but nothing really helpful.

I'm thinking about a 60 Pro Series as my next S&W purchase. Any insights, comments, photos, and comparisons appreciated!

For what it is worth, I don't "need" this gun to fill a niche, I just like the looks, and since I do carry a J-frame on occasion, this would be used for some carry, some plinking, and some showing off.

I have no experience with the model 60; but if S&W did as good a job on it as they did my recently purchased Pro series 686 SSR, it will be quite a gun.

Bob, the SSR was an option, but I already have an L-Comp, which is a 586+ so I'd probably get the 686+ Pro Series so my moon clips will interchange. Anyway, I'm looking for a small carry revolver with a little more oomph than my .38 Centennial. Plus I love the looks of the littlest Pro Series.

Surely someone here will have one and post some comments/pictures!

My Pro Series has about a 20 pound double action trigger pull. In single action there is noticeable creep in the trigger before it breaks. I'm going to get a complete trigger job on mine. Overall I'm rather disappointed. Other than the trigger it shoots like a dream, even with hot .357 mag loads.

The 3" 60 Pro series is a fine shooting revolver. The redesigned grip handles the 357 recoil very well. The weight and balance is great for a woods, carry, plinking, etc revolver. I would think one of the better all around guns available. I have shot a couple, just wish I could afford to buy one presently.

I fondle the one at my local gun shop at least once a week or so. This copy seems to be quite nice although I've never owned a Smith' that didn't benefit from an action job. Anyway, the balance is clearly superior to my 640-3. The barrel is the key element with the grips being a close second. Still, its an acquired taste for some and frankly, if it were available in a 2.5-inch version I would buy it today.

BTW: I purchased the grips for my 640 and they are much nicer and ergonomic than the stock rubber it came with.

I love mine and carry it quite often. It is a great shooter.
I took a friend shooting a while back because her husband was getting ready to deploy again and she wanted a good pistol for conceal carry and to have at the house. She picked this one out of all my J frames and I think she has pretty good taste.

A couple of my friends have the M60 Pro-series guns. They love them! After seeing theirs I had a hard time not buying one myself, but I already have a standard M60 .357. One thing I did do was order a set of the same grips that come on the Pro-series M60 for my standard M60. They are very nice grips, and the full-lug M60 looks really nice with the Pro-series grips. For me they feel really good to shoot too. I'll take a photo of my gun tomorrow and post it here.

I love my M60 Pro Series. First pic is with the wood grips (love 'em). Second pic is with Crimson Trace Laser Grips (love 'em too). One of the sweetest grips and feelings you will experience from any J Frame. And, shoots true!

I have a 60 Pro. I really like mine. I did my own action job and smoothed and lightened the trigger. Mine has a very nice trigger now. It seems to be as accurate I can shoot. I put Pachmayr Decelerator grips on it. I have large hands and they are bigger than the stock grips.

Why get a 60 Pro? Somedays, a 627 Pro is too much:

In the interest of complete disclosure - my 60 Pro, like my other .357 Magnum revolvers, will likely see nothing warmer than my defensive ammo - Remington R38S12 .38 Spcl +P 158gr LHPSWCs. That grip is perfect for the small recoil. I like the 3" 60 Pro because it can share carry duties with the same S&W holster as my 3" 63 x8 .22LR (60 Pro in holster):

My 60 Pro came with a decent DA trigger, which really didn't improve much with a lightened trigger return spring. It, my 632 Pro, and my 3" 63 are all very similar in DA pull. It 'stages' appropriately - as does the 632 Pro. The 60 Pro, compared to the basic 3" 60, has a tritium Night Sight out front, slab-sided two-piece barrel, minor trigger job/improvement, and some neat $43 S&W grips - all for just $20 over the base model. That is a 'deal'! Great series of revolvers - excellent choice! Certainly more accurate than me, even if the front Night Sight isn't very easily picked up in bright light - a HiViz, a la the 3" x8 63, would be better, IMHO.

I have the 60 pro. It carries like a dream. It does shoot about 6" low at 7 yards which I was pretty disappointed about and I haven't gotten around to adjusting the rear sight. Other than that, it's pretty nice. I do miss my 6" 686 that I had back in my college days but that gun was a tank and I could never CCW that. Oh, and for the record, I hate the look of the new black circle trigger lock above the cylinder lock. booo s&w.

I've been carrying a model 60 pro daily for a year and a half. Great little gun carries well, and shoots well. My only complaint would be the front sights. The tritium insert is so small, and hard to see. I would prefer a better sight. That's just one man's opinion. All in all its a fantastic revolver.

 

[686 SSR]

I have a 60 Pro and the 686 SSR. I highly recommend both as accurate shooters. The 60 Pro's wooden grip makes even full-house .357 magnum loads easy to handle.

The 60 Pro's front night sight is a bit hard to see, but either a dab of paint or another sight blade with a gold bead would fix that. I've left the front sight the way it is and have simply adjusted.

It's an easy revolver to carry concealed as it does not seem to feel as near as heavy as it's supposed to be. Perhaps it is 60 Pro's balance (?) because with the 3-inch barrel, the balance seems perfect in my hands.
