For $600, I can get a 5 screw pre-M28 or a 5 screw pre-M15.

Both 4" barrels

The pre-M28 looks original and the pre-M15 has target hammer and trigger and grips with no diamond.

Is one more desirable? I'm leaning toward the magnum but I also have a little collection of K frames that I'd like to add to.

Also, it's a must buy on Friday deal cause they'll be gone Saturday.

Both are outstanding revolvers but 600 seems a little high for a pre 15 unless it is in near new condition with all the goodies.
A shooter grade pre 15 can be had for less then 600.
I find the 15 to be faster on target due to the weight difference, 28s are a little bulky if your just shooting 38s.

It would be nice to have more information.

You say you already have some K-Frames; can we assume one or more of them are .38 Specials?
Same question, .357 Magnums?
Obviously if you haven't got a .357 M, advantage: Pre-28.

Do you want to shoot lighter loads or full-power .357 Mags?
Or all of the above?
Maybe you don't even want to shoot full-power Mags, but if you do, advantage: Pre-28.

One seems to be more original than the other. Of course, being original doesn't mean it isn't all beat up. IE, condition is important. So, advantage: you tell us.

Is carry / concealability important? If so, advantage: pre-15.

Well, I've rambled enough … let us know.

Personal preference - two very different firearms.
I tried an N frame for a while , did not take to it. Sold it and added to my K frame group. For recreational shooting and target I prefer .38 sp over 357 anyway.

Like I said ...

Tough decision.
As you can see there are a lot of N frame fans here.
There are a few of us malcontents here who are not quite as enamored with the N frame.
I love them, but only chambered in cartridges that start with a 4.
If you are concerning yourself with value, I would lean toward the Highway Patrolman.

There seems to be far more Pre 15's on the market than Pre 28's. If you can only get one, get the 28. Thanks! Mick

Both fine guns. I've carried and qualified with them both. The $600 might be closer to a good deal on the Highway Patrolman, but it's all about condition. Oh, and a collection of K frames must contain a Combat Masterpiece. I think there's a rule about it somewhere :) .
Good shootin',
Doug

Another vote for the Highway Patrolman. Hope your able to post your new purchase here for us.
