Recently picked up a lightly used 624 that dates to 1985. I'm usually more interested in older guns, but I am impressed with this gun! I really don't think it's been fired much. Came with original box and tools. Grips have an ink stamp on them dated May 25, 1985.
I can see how some folks might get excited about these guns! Might have to look at a Lew Horton 3" model some time…..

Very nice gun! Like Peak53, I have 3 24-3's; a 3", 4" and 6 1/2". The 4" is my favorite. It handles perfectly and it's more accurate than the other two. It also has a preference for 2400 while the others like Unique. It's a contrarian, I suppose. I hope you decide to shoot yours. 24's and 624's are indeed very "special."

Some years back,I went on a 24-3 and 624 binge. One gun show I spied an almost mint 624 with the 6.5" barrel. Shot it quite often and the hunt was on. Next find was a 24-3 with the 3" barrel and combat grips. And the last was a 24-3 with the 4" barrel. All of them got me in deep dodo with the wife as plastic was the preferable means and payment. But all of them have appreciated in value so actually I didn't do so bad. Last time at the range I took the 3" 24-3 and lots of shooters had never seen one. Good thing I was shooting my handloads, would have gone broke shooting factory ammo. Frank

I don't like stainless guns except for the 624 and Interarms Walther PPK/S which are beautiful guns I'd love to own. I especially like leisurely shooting my 6 1/2" 24-3 with light to moderate loads. I bought the 4" gun right after Skelton wrote the gun up in 1983. The longer one much later. Those are Herrett's I remodeled using the right trigger rest for my left thumb rest now.

Summersteel,
Your 624 certainly hasn't seen much use! Hope you plan to fix that. I have the same model and am working up some nice loads for it with cast bullets of mine. They are such a well balanced and accurate gun to work with. What ever you paid you did very well with that one. Enjoy and let us know how it shoots for you.
Jim

Congratulations! No doubt my 4" 624 would be the last of my S&W's I'd ever let go. My hands down favorite. Agree with Trout, the original Mountain Gun.
