625-4 SAC

There's a 625-4 SAC (Springfield Armory, Arms for the nation) 4" .45 ACP for sale locally. It's new in the box and priced at $1500. Kinda neat (basically a .45 ACP Mountain Gun), although I could live without the SA stuff on the side plate and the barrel marking. Anyone have one of these? If so, ever shot it? I've never seen one of these for sale or in person for that matter here in California. What do you think about the price (Remember, old cool stuff is always pricier in California thanks to "the Roster")? Thanks!

$1500 is a decent price IMHO, as it is a pre MIM & hole revolver at S&Ws peak of stainless manufacturing. I have one, but don't shoot it due to too many others filling the bill.

Why would they put Springfield Armory on a Smith? And yes, I know Springfield Armory wasn’t always a gun company, but it is now. It’s still weird.

They may as well put Colt and Ruger on it for good measure.

The pistol caliber is 45 Auto.
The Colt gun is an ACP. Automatic Colt Pistol.
So I guess they did put “Colt” on it. More weirdness.

The Model 625-4 Springfield Armory Bicentennial Edition: 45 ACP special production from the Performance Center for Lew Horton Dist. A specially designed revolver to commemorate the 200 birthday of the U.S. Arsenal, Springfield Armory, for the Arsenal of Democracy, The Springfield Armory N.H.S., Springfield Ma. Stainless Steel with a 4" barrel, in mountain revolver size with gold-etched bicentennial logo on the sideplate and "Arms for the Nation" etched on the barrel. 500 were manufactured with special serial numbers SAC0000-SAC0500. The prototype for Lew Horton was a Model 629 Mountain Gun with "Springfield Armory Comm." Chambered in 44 Magnum, Product Code 100931. Produced in 1994 only.

I bought mine this March 26, 2026 at a gun show for $775. It came in the wrong box and with the original rubber grips and I put this set of Combat grips on it. In my research I found 5 sales with an average of $965. I have not shot it and likely will not but it is beautiful and I am happy to own it. Hope this info is helpful.
