There's a S&W 625-6 Mountain Gun in 45Colt on GB right now that has a bulged barrel. The seller (Elk County Ammo-Arms) claims there is pitting in the bore. I bought this revolver from them earlier this year and discovered someone had fired the gun with a squib load in the barrel (likely reduced loads), then pounded the stuck bullets out with a steel rod. You could see/feel the bulge in the barrel and the damage to the rifling is not insignificant. I offered to send it back to S&W for a barrel replacement and check-up if they wanted to cover the cost of the new barrel and they said they'd send it back for repair and re-list it once the work was completed. Obviously the work was not done. I'm not upset (I found a nice 657-4 MG later on, so I'm happy), just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

I just looked up that ad...it says nothing about the barrel bulge, and it is being sold in "as-is" condition, with "no guarantee, warranty, returns or exchanges". They started the bidding at $1200.

Here's the description:

"Taken on trade in our retail store, this revolver is being sold in very good condition. Minor signs of use and wear and could use a good cleaning but otherwise appears to be have been well cared for. There is some minor pitting in the barrel (see pictures) this should not affect function or accuracy in any way. Pictures are of exactly what you are bidding on and will receive."

I don't care how you slice it, that is just plain dishonest. :(

Thanks for the warning, Stump Buster...you're a good man.

Really sad and unnecessary....

In today's "instant information age" doing something stupid like this can cost a company thousands of dollars in reputation....

I would never shop there...

You ought to go to the listing and post a comment or question to the seller saying that you know what he is doing and that this has been posted on the S&W forum. That ought to light his drawers on fire :D

Where would we draw the line?
Do we allow an alert for every reblue that is not declared?
How about having the wrong grips?
Incorrect box?
Changed front sight blade?

This is a precedent we cannot set. Buyers must do their own due diligence. We are not their nannies.
