So I bought a 625 .45 ACP Mountain Gun out of state and had it shipped to a pal holding an FFL. For a variety of reasons we just couldn't connect to make the transfer. Then I ran into another, this time without the dreaded lock. So I bought the second 625 MG and figured when I finally pick the other one up, I'll sell it, not caring for the lock.

Well, today we connected and I got my other 625. I opened the box and found it fresh as a daisy but wouldn't you know it... no lock.

Old age and memory, ya' gotta love it. With one on each hip I'll be as well armed as Clyde Barrow - or a Texas Ranger.

I think thats a better joke on you than if it were the other way round and they BOTH ended up having the dreaded lock.

S/W-Lifer,

OK, now, be a good & honest fellow, shoot them both w/ the same load, conditions, etc...

Tell us which one is more accurate, has smother action.

I'm not taking sides, just interested.

Yep, both -6 versions. Sorry, but as an old guy I wouldn't know where to begin to post a photo on the internet. Both guns are identical and no locks.

I gotta say I was shocked as my memory was that my first 625 had a lock. Not that I'm disappointed but I am flat out bewildered. I even remember the little keys. I'm going to search the safes. I must have something with the lock...

If I'm fading I better skip retirement and hunt up Kavorkian. This is bleak.

Sir, that's very sad. I don't know how you stand it.

Texas Ranger, not 2 guns...

Texas Ranger...1 riot, 1 gun

If two is more than you can handle I can help you dispose of one. Send me an e-mail.

Lots of us would like to have just one. Any price in mind if you sell?

I've never heard of a 625 Mountain Gun in .45 ACP that has a lock, only in .45 Colt. Am I missing something?

I have a 5" double underlug 625-6.

It has no lock but has MIM hammer and trigger. It is a FINE piece.

I'm just a bit jealous, but I'll get over it

Slim,
That is what they say but that is not the whole story... around the corner out of sight is the Texas Highway Patrol ready to help out.

Been there and done that.

To S/W Lifer, GOOD FOR YOU! It isn't often that such good luck happens.

To make matters worse I recovered another of my revolvers - a 296. I'm convinced that gun had a lock - but no lock either. I feel like Dickens' Scrooge after seeing 3 ghosts and am not sure what to make of this. I must have lockaphobia. I'd report to a place with a rubber room for safe keeping but I'm afraid they'ed have a lock on the door.

I too, have a 625 with the lock. While I don't care for the lock as most of us do not, this gun shoots better than I can hold....
Only other gun so far (S@W) that I can hit better with is my 52-2 Bullseye gun and at 25 yards the .45 ACP 625 is right close to it. I've got to where I can't see well enough to do any good at 50 yards. Not steady anymore.

Blessings

A pal of mine commented that when you are young and enthusiastic about shooting you can't afford what you want. When you can afford what you want, the eyes and shooting skills are going. We all just do the best we can but I've gotten to the point of just wanting to have fun. Retirement is going to be a whole lot of rimfire shooting down on the farm.

Should I sell one of the 625 MGs I will sell it on the Forum. Promise.

They haven't made a 296 or 625MG in .45 ACP since the mid '02 intro of the IL. I understand the 296 - it's last price was over $750 MSRP and they just didn't sell. They did finally close them out at $349+ throughvarious paths. The rat-finks up there in MA are just big meanies (Is that tough enough??) for not making another run of 625MGs in .45 ACP. I couldn't care less about the IL on it, either - just make me a new one! I do have two 625MGs - in .45 Colt - great revolvers.

Oh - I've had a 296 for over six years - had it in a Mika's pocket holster in my front pocket yesterday - even at church! It was $349 - my 696, bought the same day, was $439 - both new - got another $10 off for buying the pair.
